Hi Craig,
It's always fascinating to learn about history in poems :) I've never heard of this fellow so I enjoyed reading your notes about him. Love your closing line, "I drink, therefore Khayyam."

Thanks, Joy. He really did write some wonderful verse, although, of course, we only get to enjoy translations (unless you happen to speak Persian). Much appreciated - Craig

This is a good entry
For the contest. The ending was brilliant. I checked all of your rhymes and they are perfect. Ten syllable lines. Iambic Pentameter. Good luck
I'm the contest. Thank you for sharing

LOL!
Wow, Craig; the last line was great. I am very familiar with good old Omar. I did a paper on him in high school. We were encouraged to write a paper about one of our other subjects for an essay in English. So, I chose Omar for his contributions to Algebra.
Thank you for sharing another lovely word and a GREAT poem,

What a fine poem and tribute to old Omar!
It's got a fine flow and rhyme to it...
No 'glitches' along the way...
My compliments on this fine piece!

This is far and away my favorite post that I have read of yours. I learned so much while being entertained with every word. Not only did I learn about Omar Khayyam, but you threw in Descartes as well to rhyme with art. And I love iamb to rhyme with Khayyam. So clever. Thanks also for the wine motif. That made it so interesting.

Superb! I have a beautifully illustrated copy of the Rubaiyat at my bedside at the moment - and have been dipping into it for refreshment several times this week! Your final pun is brilliantly awful - worth six in its own right! I would write much more in praise of this fine poem of yours, but I have wine to bring up from the cellar and it needs to be poured in time for supper.

Haha... well, coming from SA, I assume that would be a nice Grange Bin 95? 1955 vintage, perhaps? Thanks for the wonderful review, Tony. Much appreciated, Craig
