Excellent free verse on the horrors of London during WW11
Sirens, bombs, babies crying, drones from planes, - you had it all.
God was truly on England's side. When all of Europe folded - England emerged the true hero - such amazing faith and tenacity.
You expressed all this and more.
Well done.

Poignant picture of those times.
'Death and destruction lay a-round [? 'around']'
My dear mother, her brothers, sisters and parents all lived through the bombings, and luckily all survived thanks to the siren warnings and air raid shelters provided.
Excellent free verse captures the frightening atmosphere of the time.
Cheers, Ray

So sad, such sadness in your poem which would tear any readers heart strings. Even after everything that has happened before we never learn from all the destruction. Poor innocents in all this. The children, their families. Will it ever end. A beautiful poem told from the heart. I loved it. Full of imagery and feeling. Run for your life, exarch out your God. This is mans doing, I just hope God can forgive. Loved it. Genya

We should not forget as we continue with war. I saw in today's news that Obama has authorize airstrikes on Iraq. Will war never stop?

Yes, life will go on, but at what cost. Your poem is so sad, and the one thing about it is, it can apply to a few countries now. Those innocents, children, mums and dads, who don't want the war but are forced to endure it anyway. I was born just after the blitz of London, so only remember the time just after. I liked the way you wrote this, it was filled with such emotion and that photo...that's what I mean, that little boy didn't ask for that war. So sad. xsx sandra

I will quite often consider circumstances a little differently when children are involved. When they are victims, I have hard time that this is a decision of a "higher power". That said, your poetry is very good and I enjoy your poetic style. I wish you well.

This is such a sad tale. The photo of a boy sitting in the ruins of a bombed London holding a teddy bear brought tears to my eyes. Wars are such sordid, ugly things - and they hit the innocent for the sake of the insane ambition of the greedy.
A great poem, loved your artistic presentation, this was prevalent and powerful.

Hi deepwater - A good free verse about a grim period in history, from the civilian point of view. Appropriate for this time while in England we are holding memorial services for those you died in WW1 1914-1918. London was a terrible place to be in 1942. Thank you for sharing. Kind regards Dorothy

You really capture the feeling of what it must have been like to survive the blitz attacks. Those were terrible times that really tested the strength of the British people. It was inspiring to read about these two woman who survived the horror. The sounds of the warning bells and of the drones must have been frightening. People knew what to do and where to find shelter. It would have been enough to bring on nightmares. I loved your closing that history will tell us its tale/man can survive every turmoil and strife. Those brave Londoners certainly proved that. judi
