How sad is this message! Very well written. It sounds just like something a soldier would write in WWI. I find it heartbreaking. Wish wars didn't have to be fought! Miss Sally

I love this, we fight for what? Why? It makes no sense, as a mother of a teenaged son, my tears cry out to all around, who send their loved ones to the ground.

A virtual six with a photograph from a war past...Because war & really any conflict, which there are so many, these days, or is it because everything is on camera broadcasted to the world so easily, unlike WW1, that possibly could of been avoided?...All that leads to so many deaths, affect families, who still feel so much sorrow for their loved ones who fought dying for what their country deemed the right thing to do?...Though, to protect ones country, or those who feel that an injustice has been...or drafted, war is likely to still bring much unending sorrows & terrible memories..

The tone of this is quite pensive, accentuated by the repeated, nuanced references to the grayness of the day. And I am particularly touched by the phrase, "shrapnel killed the brave all day." The poem brings WWI up close and personal. Wonderful writing. Best regards, Jeanie Mercer

A Six Banfer for this protest poem. Great writing. Great form and content. Some great lines in here also. A poem from a master craftsman! Deepwater does it again!

A very thoughtful write on WW1 and the senseless horrors of war.
It was very creative of you to pen exactly the same verse for both British and German soldiers.
And a meaningful ending - both notes got home - to both mothers -
My son is in the army and each day I worry and pray so this poem is especially relevant.

You've illustrated with your words the absolute futility of war. It's the same story for everyone involved, just slight twists like the Kaiser vs. the King. Young lives are mowed down no matter the war, no matter the cause. Great job portraying the reality.

Very sad but painfully true. lot of letters got sent home without the person that penned them. I enjoyed your poem. The flow is comfortable and its words are strangely peaceful even though you are talking of war and pending death. Nicely done, thank you for sharing your work.

What a magnificent creation! You represent the whole epoch with your poem.
The repeating lines work perfectly with German Lines and British Lines. And then in No Man's Land this is powerful:
Mothers around the world do cry and pray, for soldiers their sons, who fight away.
Shells exploded in glares of gray, as shrapnel killed the brave all day,
A letter did state both died this way, upon the fields so wet and gray.
Fantastic artistic presentation - a very impressive work.

Excellent poem that shows so many young boys lives that were lost. Probably many of them didn't even understand what they were dying for.
They will always be remembered.
'with all the dead lie all around' , was it on purpose it was phrased this way?
thanks for sharing
