Silence can be more eloquent than music, and a moment of reflection offers more wisdom that any anything else. Those who can keep silent usually have the most to say.

Yes, mark, silence can more eloquent than music because it gives us moments of reflection. Thank you for your review.

A very well-written tanka. The empty bell tower keeps the night silent and the pigeons have a peaceful home. Wind chimes call us for meditation.

Very good tanka poem. With the bell tower lacking bells it is the wind chime pigeons to roost in piece and the night to remain quite..and the wind chime's sound softer allows one to center their thoughts. Comparing bells in the tower to the soft sound of a wind chime. Excellent and thanks for sharing. Kat

OH! How lovely, Andre, and thank you for reminding us just how beautiful tanka can be, how sweet the sounds of bells, and just how gorgeous the winter's silent stillness can be - that's what I 'hear'/imagine as I read this poem.

Oh, i love wind chimes. Loved listening to them while i read your poem. So soothing!
Love the creative peronsificaiton of the bell tower. Love the phonetics with the PO and S sounds as well and as L and W. Sounds lovely read aloud, fine flow. Fine tone to match the theme. Love the meditative and alliterative pivot, too!
Brilliant line:
preserves winter's silent night
Love this. An exquisite six.
Bravo
Warmly,

Andre,
Interesting that it's the wind chimes that call you to your spiritual posturing instead of the church bells, isn't it? Nice play on words. Very thought-provoking. Sometimes we find inspiration in the most unusual places. Thanks!

yes, Robyn, sometimes we find inspiration in the most unusual places. i stopped by the wind chimes again to day to listen for a moment and thank them for inspiring my first Tanka. Thanks again.
Comment from Autumn Splendour
In this poem, the poet experiences a moment of awakening when she hears the tinkling wind chimes. She associates it with "meditation", a desire to exclude the frets and fevers of the world and focus on the spiritual.
I like the juxtaposition of the empty bell tower and the wind chimes.
