A well-done poem. I like this form and will have to try it in the future.
I love the way you describe the different ways to protect yourself
when it's so cold..........socks, scarves, gloves, and fire.

Barbara, we have to cover up very well in harsh climes.

I like this form. I may try one. Interesting. Gungalo who originated the form was on FS when I first joined in 2012. I like your take on keeping warm and the socks on toes. It seems that if our head and feet are warm, (hands, too) so is the rest of us. Good job. Marilyn

Marilyn, I agree that this form is very special. What a great tribute a Gungalo to kick off the twenty year of FS

This reminds me of when I was little and we had to go to my grandmother's house for we had no heat she had a foot heater that ran on propane. This was fun

I live where it becomes 20 below with snow and this poem feels like a slightly old fashioned version of protecting yourself against the elements. I love it. There is nothing cozier. This poem has a wonderful rhyme scheme. The starkness of the black and white photo adds to the words.
Beautiful poem.

Terry thank you, I do not miss one day of winter anywhere in the northern US States.

I loved this poem. It is such a nice poem to read in wintertime. It creates a feeling of warmth and comfort when the weather outside is not as pleasant. All in all, a very pleasant read.

Tis summer here in NZ at present and it has been scorching thus far. I was however raised in the north east of England so know all about the twenty below with snow and getting rugged up and warmed up by a coal fire.
Very nice poetry which offers up visuals that most will be able to relate to.

Thanks for the review, but I know your winters to be rugged, yes?

Not here on the North Island of NZ friend. I have seen snow fall in Taupo(where I live) maybe four times in 17 years. we get good frosts which are normally gone by 10/11am in the winter The south Island... that is a whole different story, they get the full force of winter : ))

I think this is a lovely 20 below verse.
The Coles Rhythm is nicely done and the verse reads smoothly within it.
A nice entry for the Potlatch Poetry Challenge.
Well done

Sharon, thank you! I truly enjoyed this style, what a nice tribute to this missing FS soul.
Comment from Mary Kay Bonfante
Lovely poem, beautiful picture! I enjoyed the Cole's rhythm and the rhyme scheme, well done. The refrain "socks on toes" works very well for the theme of dealing with cold weather.
Small errors to correct:
"keep dry for all you're worth"
"keeping matches drier"
That's all.
Cozy poem!

Your poem made me feel chilly and wearing socks on toes to keep warm is a great idea on those freezing nights in the snow. I looked at this contest and could not understand the Coles Rhythm as I just didn't get it, so I'm glad you gave it a try, love Dolly x
