*** Virtual Six***!! Awesome poem, Jess, and of course the snapshot is beautiful of the swan. It looks so sad without it's mate. I think they give the world beauty, class, and an important message of how to do it.
Sending you my best today as always, and my very best wishes for the upcoming contest.

This is a beautiful poem about a lone unpartnered swan The poet sees more than just a swan and draws Life's lessons from the swan's lonely existence, The poet imbues the swan with a steely resolve to continue living as she has done since the loss of her mate. The words of the last verse express
the poet's thoughts beautifully, contained in a cleverly worded question. Food for thought, cheers Cass

Oh yes indeed, the proverbial metaphors generated from nature are ncredible, like the swan, speaks of fidelity, (but there are rumours) and one of the best reflections of human relationships are projected by the ever revered swan. Beautifully written my talented, smooth narrative and language, and great rhyming, well done, blessings Roy

Thank you for sharing this beautiful contest entry and this beautiful photograph with us. Swans are very regal, and you captured it perfectly. What a great metaphor for her paddling underwater, as we paddle through life. Good luck with the contest.

Jessica, this is exceptionally beautiful. The story of the swan is gripping and slightly sad. There are very few animals and birds that have only one mate in a lifetime, One is the Canadian honker. People could learn a lesson from them. Very enjoyable poem. Your rhyming is beautiful. You force me into a six.

What a lovely picture of the swan. They are so graceful, and your well-written poem describes her well. I like the life message in the verse:
"Some things are not as they appear,
Some surfaces hide battles,
To simply sit on ponds, swans bear
A need for frantic paddles.

This is absolutely beautifully. You invite us with your words, to enjoy the graceful beauty of the swan and to ponder her activities, her character traits, her life's journey. And you do this with exquisite description and flawless rhyme.
