Children are really privileged when they have such wonderful memories. Summer days spent at the beach are priceless. You describe very well the winds blowing, the gulls, the sand castles built with father. What better to top it off than the ice cream. I remember living near the Nahant beach in MA, and I would walk down to Swampscott for an ice cream cone. Excellent rhyme in this, and it establishes a wonderful mood. judi

this is a very lovely poem. I can just see the eyes of any child light up at the thought of getting ice cream. Great job.

A nice piece of reminiscence, Gary. I think ice-cream is quite possibly the world's most wonderful food. The scene you create here is something everyone who grew up near a beach (lake or seaside) can relate to.
Nice use of mono-rhyme, which enhances, rather than detracts from the poem.

Very nice, Gary. You've brought back wonderful memories of childhood that many of us can relate to.
Your poem has a lovely flow, and your mono rhyming is well done. I particularly like the last line, capping off the wonders of the day.
Thank you for sharing. Alana

Beautifully soft, scripted
walks in the life of a child
on a day at the beach with
the golden sand trickling through
his little hands, the cooling sea
on a hot day, but best of all
that ice cream treat that one
will never forget.
Well done

"The Best is the Ice-cream" is a lovely mono-rhyme poem deepwater. You describe wonderful childhood memories of summer fun that takes the reader back to a simpler time.
I enjoyed the nostalgic theme.
Well done.

Ah, for the simpler days of our childhood! Those days whose memories are scrubbed clean of the minor annoyances of sand fleas, sun burn and he long hot ride home with no air conditioning.(LOL) BUT - it's funny, isn't it, how in the end - that moment of pure bliss. . .the ice cream treat . . . shines brightest in our nostalgia bank :-)

Hi deepwater - This is a lovely mono-rhyme poem about lovely memories. I envy the warm winds blowing off the sea. I remember chilly north-east winds blowing in off the sea, but great times dune-jumping - not many ice-creams. This is a poem that makes the reader hearken back to their childhood - alas that is all we can do. Lovely read. Regards Dorothy

A small write that emphasises the experience we long for most as adults. To be able to see through those eyes would be the Dawn of a new tomorrow. Yet, I wonder if we would see through innocent eyes or would we be tainted by what we already know?
I didn't have many ice creams, but it sure would be nice to get those summers back, innocence and all.

To see like a child...Picasso deliberately did it. He knew they have far better vision! Dali too, I think. You can see it in their works.
To be like a child...God favors them most...
