So true, deepwater. We recently went away with my son. He went to the beach, down a waterslide, in the lazy river, etc. When we asked him his favorite part of the trip? Ice cream.
Great poem.
Long hot summers on a beach with warm winds blowing off the sea. -- Is this intended to be a comment or a question? It read like a question to me, but it ends with a period.

This is a beautiful poem with lots of memories. Your poem took me back to those wonderful days of summer when as a child everything was new and fresh. Life was one big adventure filled with great expectations. Thanks for taking me back to that special place.

This poem evokes memories of a happy and safe childhood.A carefree atmosphere is created as the poet drifts through the memories and impressions of a long ago- long hot summer- eventually to drift asleep to see the wonders so free.Much Is alluded to in these seven lines yet the poet never indulges in nostalgia,rather dares to see through the eyes of a child-as stated in the powerful opening line.The Poet dares to write like a child,using the same end rhyme on every line though the effect is far from childish.Could hear the Gulls and taste the ice cream as Iread.

I think childhood memories make the best subject matter for poems due to the fact as adults you can compare how your dreams and thoughts back then match up to your reality now. And if they don't they are pleasant embarkations to relieve the drudgery of the mundane every day and give you hope to dream again. Nice job.

You have described my day trips to the sea, perfectly! It was a time that children back then enjoyed the simple things that life had to give. I also had a donkey ride on the sandy beach. How many memories you have brought back for me. :) Sandra
