Your poem is very heartrending. It's always sad to have to say goodbye. You seem to have a good head on your shoulders for leadership.

I like this because...It tells a story which flows so well is concise and most powerful of men who fight to keep our freedom. An inspiring piece that is most visual in description and has a good balance. An artistic write.

What price have we paid during life , that others may carry on? Will I be remembered for good or evil or not at all? Your poem is a grim reminder that if we choose the wrong path while living, we will have died in vein, but if we choose the path of righteousness we will wear the crown of heavenly glory.
Than you for another insightful examination of the life we lived.
Well done! Thank you for sharing.

This is a nice piece of reflective poetry that raises some crucial itrospective questions about this life. It is important to attempt finding answers to these questions from time to time so that we do not live a wasted life. kudos

You're a very talented poet, deepwater! I enjoyed reading this poem. I don't remember reading a poem quite like this before, where one is speaking of their own end. Felt it brought about much to reflect on!
Thank you for sharing your poetry!

I enjoyed the tone of this poem, thanks.
History will tell of great men who fell, but what of us that did follow?
This line hits me the most. We remember the leaders but a war is fought by the masses, many who lost their lives or contributed so much more. It's sad that they sacrified their lives yet are faceless and nameless in history pages. They are but a cumulative number.
Now comes the time to lay me down on this cold October morn_
But now comes the time to lay me down on this cold October morn
When I read the first line, I had the sense of a man lying down, remembering his past but as I read on , I realise this is the voice of a deceased. The repeat of the first line in the last rounds this poem well. There's a dignified moment of respect at the end for this man who gave his life for his country.
