What great rhetorical questions. The answer are obvious. Until he finds a dream to follow or a love to share a man has no worth to himself or others.
Almost man needs to find a path for his life with a bright light at the end.
Great thought provoker.

I feel there are going to be many different interpretations to this poem. I'm seeing this man to be very much within himself, unable to express what he needs to say, very much closed in, even afraid to stand up for himself when need be. He's probably a loner, and feels very lost, and without company. What good is a man? There are many different types. Great writing, and I enjoyed. . .Sharon

the Philosophy of Man "What good is a man" Indeed! Of what good can a man be without life being very kind to him. Everything a man wants to be, he has to do by himself. Well done.

Ending a poem this way with a question was in style in the sixties. It does my heart good to see it used again. Very well written excellent content with a great message.

His mind lost in the translation of unspoken words,
Nice line! To me that line seems to be the pivot point of the poem.
It had me thinking of why I dislike situations where people fail to communicate. When people don't talk there is always going to be some time or situation where someone is left to try to interpret what was not said or left unsaid.
Recipe for mistakes.

An excellent depiction of one's vulnerability to their value in life. Skims the surface of thought provoking questions, though I'd like to see you reach deeper into the heart and soul of the matter of existence. The photo speaks more volume than your words and I'd like to see you delve deeper and expand on the emotions shown in the image. It's a great start and I've read a number of your pieces, so I know you know how to reach that rawness and expose it.

deepwater: I'm 66 years old and I still haven't figured out for what is a man good . . . But, perhaps you are searching for a much deeper answer. This poem left me with even more questions . . . Who would and could deny a man his soul? Without it, we are nothing . . . much like the man in your picture. I'm assuming that a man beaten to within an inch of his life might lose his soul and lack self-preservation. Losing ones mind isn't all that difficult; it is hanging on to it that's so difficult. And, we must never sacrifice our heart. I'm not sure that I actually understand of what your writing actually means. I would like to be enlightened. However, it sounds very good and the picture seemed to fit. livelylinda

The image presented is neat and clean. I liked it, and also, the picture, a seemingly homeless man cuddled beside a wall.
There is a presumption that the man is being denied of his religious acceptance, while it may also be presumed that it is not really so. For many a man, dirty in existence but clean in spirit--had been in that situation merely because of circumstances. In order to claim denial, I think, it should be qualified. But being the case, the man has really nothing to offer. He is a useless piece of protoplasmic creation if the other way 'round.
he is mean spirited...Thanks for sharing.
