BEAUTIFUL POEM.DESCRIBES THE WAR SITUATION SO APTLY I CAN PICTURE IT CLEARLY. IT IS BETTER IMAGINED THAN EXPERIENCED. I LIKE THE EXPRESSION OF THE NEED FOR SUPERNATURAL HELP FROM GOD. OFTEN TIMES IN LIFE WHEN WE ARE AT OUR WITS END ABOUT WHAT TO DO, WE CAN ONLY SURRENDER TO HIM. IMPLICITLY. I LIKE THE FACT THAT THE POEM ENDED ON A HOPEFUL NOTE.-NOT COUNTING THE CASUALTIES AND THE DREAMS EXTINGUISHED BY DEATH BUT AFFIRMING THAT MAN CAN SURVIVE ANY TURMOIL & STRIFE. MUCH NEEDED IN OUR TIMES,ME THINKS.

Hi there. I wanted to tell you that this is a very well-written, dramatic piece of prose that leaves the reader with a sense of emotion and sorrow for the event that inspired this piece. The image you chose matches well with the theme of the poem. Good job :) I wish you good luck in your future endeavours.

I was born in London during the war and this poem brings to mind those awful times when my mother would hide her 3 small children in the underground station at Mile End Rd. until the siren sounded the all clear. She used to tell us how you could hear the Doodlebugs engines overhead and when the engines stopped you knew they were about to fall nearby. She also said that when the Nazis started sending their rockets over, towards the end of the war, that there was no time to hide in the bomb shelters and they wreaked terrible damage wherever they fell.
As a small child I used to play with the other children in the bombed out houses that were in our street.
Well done

What a sad tale told in this incredibly imagistic poem. The ravages of war play no favorites, and fear is the ultimate enemy, for panic is unavoidable in such horrendous conditions - no one lives through war without trauma and pain afterwards, sometimes life-long...six worthy, but I just assigned my last one. *******************

My pleasure.

A very informative, historical view that may seem old as the American wild west, but people, wars, and history itself changes very little. Nice flow throughout. Reads well. Thanks for sharing. Les

It's hard to hold back emotion, and even tears, while reading this. My generation truly has no comprehension of how life was during wartime. My heart breaks. Excellent piece. Thank you for sharing. Be well and always write.

Bow bells would ring to remember this day [I hated to interrupt the flow of this evocative poem with the question: "Did you mean Cow bells"?
Of course you are too young to remember the London Blitz, aren't you. I remember hearing my mom and dad talking about it when I was a child. There was a fear that the Nazis would spread their devastation to American shores as well, and for a 5 year old it was the stuff of nightmares. I can't imagine having lived through the actual horror of it.

Your title and photograph selection are just right for this account of history. I admired your free verse and the dedication in your notes. You captured the scene and intensified with the many sounds. Thank you for sharing the harrowing experiences- Joan

This is a very scary poem you have written. It is so sad that people have to go through this kind of thing. I gave you six stars as you have told a whole story in this poem.
great job you have done my friend.

Memories of war and survival are traumatic and never leave us. Much should be passed on to those that don't know or understand the terror. A well written
verse that relate the tale that some have lived. Thank you, Smiles, Robin :)
