What a terrific tribute to all those mountain men who made a big impact and are forgotten. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this poem - it was a bit of a biography about one such man. Regards, Lilly

You're absolutely right Willie, the brave men who took off to explore and settle our land, didn't have a clue where they were going, or indeed what they'd find, some died in that pursuit, we owe them much. Beautifully written my friend, I don't know if this man existed, but he did in one form or another. Well done, blessings Roy

What a lovely tribute to Calvin! The author's words are filled with compliment and credited this mountain man on how he lived his life. The poem flows and connects well. Thank you for the author notes - they speak volumes! The artwork is awesome and compliments this poem.

In my opinion, an enjoyable read by this talented writer - smoothly rendered in verse and image - though I found the font a bit difficult to read - old eyes, you see - it does present an attractive presentation...

That is a great tribute to the men of the west, specifically mountain men, who were part of building our nation. Your work is a well written tale, rhymes well, and holds the reader's interest. Evi

Hello Willie, Calvin lived a simple, but hard, life during a dangerous time in history. Perhaps, that's why his family settled in the mountains? High above the rugged terrain. High enough to see your "troubles" coming?Your poem reads and flows well and has good descriptive writing.
Of special note:
Wife died early giving birth,
He raised three children and proved his worth.
(Sadly, during this time in history, there were many deaths in the childbirth process.)
Also:
Few people even knew his name,
He entered the world quietly and left the same.
(This part is true. I didn't know if Calvin was a real person or not. I asked the internet and came up blank, so I guess he did live a quite life, unknown to few.)
A story-in-a poem that is very well told. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

This is an excellent poem. A great story in rhyme about a man not many knew but he lived a good life and I would imagine in spite of loosing his wife early, he was happy in the mountains. There is a lot of of joy to be found if you live in a place you love.

This is a well written verse paying homepage to a "true,"
mountain man.
I enjoyed the narrative format accompanied by flawless rhymes.
The metre used created a tempo like that of a concerto, I found this extremely pleasant to read aloud.
Thank you for sharing.

Well done Willie P. I enjoyed this poem very much. It is always fun to learn about people who helped tame the Wild West. Calvin Short sounds like the sort of strong and courageous and hardworking man that we used to enjoy reading about and admired so much when we were young. Thank you for sharing this story. I enjoyed the poem's meter and rhymes, as well as the neat story. MM

MissMerri, I certainly appreciate your review and shiny six stars.
I often told my wife, was born out of my time. I love the woods and
forests and the outdoor life. However, If I lived back then, I wouldn't have had the love of my life. Willie P.
