Thank you so much, Marilyn, for your kind words and encouraging review. I don't think I've actually written and posted anything but a couple poems, which I don't normally write, and maybe the last chapter of the Tucker series since you've been on FanStory. Thanks for going back to read this older post, and I hope it entertained you a little. Much appreciated!

you're welcome. why don't i see you on the club yet?

Boy, you sure can weave. You start off with a lesson in Catholicism, go to an a delinquency of idiots, then close with a Romany hex. A better Halloween short story
I have not read.

Thank you so much, Karen, for your extra special six-star review and kind words. Sometimes my mind outruns my mouth or hands and certainly my feet. But you are one of the few I know who would understand that. But all that is for a later conversation in a more private setting. I'm glad you like my story. I loved your review. Much appreciated!

Holy smokes...That was intense, intriguing and really good....I wish I had a six.
I liked the buildup to their comeuppance.
Very descriptive phrasing created great imagery.
Well done, sir.
I've skipped "Lingering" for now.
I want to read and review back to back.

Hey, Mark, thanks for your generous review and kind words. And most of all for going back to read old posts that don't pay you a nickle of funny money. "Lingering" is way outside my comfort zone, but I'm trying to take myself to places most have never been. LOL. I can't thank you enough for reading just to be reading. Much appreciated!

I admit I read some works of others because they paid more.
I soon stepped away from the practice after discovering rank and higher pay doesn't necessarily mean quality or enjoyable work.
I want to read work that's enjoyable and has techniques or stylizations I can learn from.
Although I appreciate everyone's efforts there aren't learning possibilities from folks whose ability is significantly less than your own.

I can only assume I was not notified of this post because it was a contest entry, and I wonder if you won. Seems I've not been getting notifications for any of your posts which likely has brought you to believe I've either kicked the bucket or I am a horrible person. I assure you neither is true...
For all the fun of Halloween, I know my young teen crowd got in lots of nasty hijinx in our time... We're lucky we never got hurt or hurt anyone else, beyond embarrassment and a messy egged car, or toilet-papered tree.
Very imaginative, Ric. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although it is January 2023 and I'm way late to the party.

Thank so much, Karenina, for your generous and kind review. No, you wouldn't have been notified about this one. I don't know why I decided to enter a contest, which I never do. But it will be my last, and no I didn't win or even come close. LOL. I never thought anything when I hadn't seen or heard from you until it went on for months, then someone finally said you got drunk and fell down the stairs. No, they didn't really say that. I just hope you're getting better every day and will soon be back to normal. Thanks for taking time out to read, but you shouldn't have. Get Well Soon! I appreciate YOU!

Drunk? Drunk! Sfuoid, for sure...
The only "spirits" involved were haunting ghosts causing me to believe--oh, I was 39 or something...

Wonder how many people know Halloween's connection to paganism, or it just about the sweets?
Like the way you interwove popular characters like Casper and Sleeping Beauty into the mix.
Halloween is meant to be a fun time, even if certain hexes are included in stories about the occasion.
The house scene was awesome, even if it did lead to months of hard labor to pay for the damages rendered.

Thank you so much, Brett, for your generous and encouraging review, and mostly for getting the subtle parts that most miss altogether. There are so many elements to Halloween, the candy and fun, and the evil that so many have never imagined. A lot of people read this story and claimed to like it, but I've just noticed it hasn't fared real well on their favorites lists. LOL. Imagine that. I appreciate YOU!

I never was big on trick or treat pranks, but had several pulled on me. It's astounding to be nominated for story of the month with several amazing friends. What a wonderfully written story.
Good luck in the contest, my friend!
Have a great day, and God bless.

Thank you so much, Papa Mike, for your extra special six-star review and kind words. It's always extra special when talented writers who I read and enjoy take time out to review my foolishness. I haven't had time to look at the nominees. But it's nice to be in good company. I appreciate you Mike! And best of luck in the contest!

Okay, okay! I see why this was number 1 in October. I'm not normally a fan of horror fiction, but this made a believer of me. As bad as the boys were, I was rooting for them to get out of the cellar, but assumed they were doomed. You just about returned us to reality with the Altzheimer's explanation for the old lady's condition ... until she unleashed with her poem ... including the author's mention of the hex at the end of it. I didn't review the hex. I'm no dummy! Again, great choice for Best of the Month!

Thank you so much, Jay, for your kind words and the extra special six-star review. This one is even outside my comfort zone, but how does one get better without stabbing in the dark. Maybe that wasn't the best way to say it. LOL. You've made my week. I appreciate YOU!
-
Talk about comfort zones, have you read any Fleedleflump here?
-
Yes, I've started reading Mike's stuff. He's an outstanding writer but wow . . . LOL. Those English fellows have a style all their own. I started reading Neil Cross who wrote Luther for television, and Mo Hyder, who was actually the British actress Cynthia Davis, who died last year at about 50. All very talented, but harsh and raw.
I'm expecting big things for your new screen play. Keep me posted!

You will be posted.

This is a great Halloween story, and you dragged me into the story (willingly). I could feel the boys terror when they went downstairs. I was happy to read they were props. You did a great job. Shirley

Thank you so much, Shirley, for your extra special six-star review and kind words. I'm glad you liked it. Maybe that's not the right conclusion. I'm glad you took time to read something I know isn't in your comfort zone. LOL. I was glad to see your post pop up in my inbox today. It's always a pleasure to read your stories, get your reviews, but mostly just to hang out with a genuinely nice person! I appreciate YOU!

You're sweet, thank you.

Thi excellent story, "Halloween Night," might've been even better told from a first person, teen participant's perspective, although this would be a challenging task. I also would have placed the history of Halloween after the story. The shocking behavior of the mischief-makers is real; these tricks were common, although not on the scale this account presents. "Halloween Night" is an evocative and informative read.

Thank you so much, Frank, for generous review and kind comments. This story isn't for everyone, as I've had a few older women who hate it. But it's nice to have someone who gets what I was trying to do. Much appreciated!

Oh! William! There?s a fire on the porch! Come stomp it out!

ROFLMAO! That's a picture that just keeps flashing across our minds.

You have it all here: the ancient traditions of Halloween, to the cute little kids with their bags and lisped "Twick o tweet", to the wretched teenagers who dare to throw a watermelon off a bridge, to those same teenagers scared to death by an old lady with a curse. Very interesting. You might want to change: p(ee)led paint and I think delapidated is wrong but don't know how to spell it right.

Thank you so much, Carol, for taking time out to read something I'm sure is outside your comfort zone. I just wanted write something outside my own comfort zone. And yes, it gave me the willies at the end. What I set out to do. Thanks for the kind review. I always appreciate your comments, reviews, and most of all YOU!
