Hi Beth,
This puts a ironic humorous end to a sad story. It seems this is a company that does well by its loyal employees. She meant cremated not castrated.
Congrats for tying for third in the contest.
Keep writing and stay welcome.

Congratulations, Beth, on your third-place finish! Oh, that was funny! What one word can do to change the entire meaning. Great piece of flash, and again, congratulations!

Thank you Faith. I really appreciate the review. I was surprised with the place win because I wrote that so long ago I forgot I'd entered it.
I appreciate the six stars.

This made me smile. Those near-to-the-right-word mistakes are often quite amusing, but don't get me started on how the automatic correction on the computer garbles what I've written. They can be funny, but they're mostly just aggravating.

Thank you. Verna. I glad you got a smile out of this. I also gotten some funny but aggravating things for the automatic correction thing. I don't always catch them in time.

Hi there,
Well that's certainly a rather bad Freudian slip if ever there was one! lol
It is amusing how often just changing one word in a sentence can have such a devastating impact.
All the best

Now this is clever and funny. Becky probably didn't even realize her mistake. She was trying to repeat what she had heard someone else say, except she used the wrong word. My mother used to say, "If you're not sure what a word means, don't use it." This is a very funny story. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you for a great review. Yes Becky used the wrong word and she was horrified when she realized what she said. This is only partial fiction. LOL

Hello Beth,
Arf!
The six is for the impact - a real guffaw/coffee-spilling moment.
The piece is nicely set up and executed, in a very small space. Humour is difficult and when it works it stands out - and if you stand out you are in with a chance, right?
(and, I make it 75 words with no SPaG issues)
Good luck with this and I wish you well with your continued writing.
cheers

Thank you so much Phil. I'm glad you got a chuckle. I guess I'm responsible for spills. You aren't the only one show said it caused a spill. I really appreciate the review and the six stars.

Yes, it was indeed a little late for the snip after granddad had died. Thanks for sharing this humorous 'cock up' of a misused word... it provided me with a giggle.

ROFL! I was trying to eat a bowl of cereal as I read your post this morning and I spit milk and Cheerios all over my desk when I go to the punch line. Fantastic way to start my day, choked on my breakfast. Thanks for sharing your great story.

Oh no. I could not help but stifle laughter. I am currently in an open space while travelling. Castrated instead of cremated. Out of the mouths of babes.
A humorous read. I really enjoyed it. Thank you.
