This poem, its form, and the mythological imagery and personages proves that you are a much better poet than I, and this may encourage others to pursue some of the ancient myths.

Patrick, I'll be frank, I've read your epic verse three times and am still trying to absorb all the details. What is so remarkable is your amazingly fluent poetry which is so fitting and well-suited to this particular genre, almost as though you're narrating from ancient times. The story recounts a love that is lost and a yearning so strong to be reunited that Andrasta agrees to Aphrodite's plan for her, firstly, to give birth to Cerberus (perhaps a footnote:)) before her prayers are answered. In short, horror with a happy ending. I'm no student of classics so I hope I haven't disgraced myself. Your impressively crafted poetry is, inevitably a very worthy contender (and much more, including a virtual six) and I wish you luck! Debbie

An amazing entry for the Share a Story in a Poem contest. Wow. Wow. and did I mention WOW!? Epic in every single sense of the word. You're getting my last six. I knew I kept it for a reason.

Patrick,

This poem is very deep in its meaning. It flows nicely all the way through and indeed tells a story about love and grief and the price you sometimes pay.

Well done and good luck in the contest.

Cecilia

As I'm reading this, I'm continually thinking of how knowledgeable you are on this subject. Greek mythology has fascinated me since I was a child, and I love what you have done with its characters and myths.

Andrasta. What a tragic love story you've created. Cruel, jealous Aphrodite. And in the end Andrasta would end up with "a life to love and hate."

I suppose everyone got what they wanted, but what a cruel price to pay.

I wrote a flash fiction about Cerberus some time back. It was actually a humorous piece.

Patrick, this is outstanding. And now I know how the "devil's dog" came to be.

Best wishes for the contest. I don't think the committee knows quite what to do with your work, as it stands head and shoulders above anything else here.

xoxo
Pam

This is superb.
I have a love for the Greek and Roman mythos and this telling of the creation of Cerberus is very well done..
Only one line made me stumble a touch,
for Damon's kiss, a year this day was lost.
I didn't quite get the sense, should it be a day this year was lost?
Anyway.
I have written an epic, mine is a modern epic touching on the style of the classics but set in toady's conflicted world. Maybe one day I will put it up on here but its several chapters long, so I shall have to consider it.
It's actually the title work of my published book 'Whispers of Albion'
Anyway, I digress from my review.
The meter and rhyme of this, the difficulty of creating an epic especially one that requires considerable knowledge of or research into Greek mythology, and then does that classic tradition proud is why I have given this the 6 it honestly deserves.

This is an epic horror story Patrick, skilfully written with good metre and clever rhyming. I loved the (pedigree) and (memory) pairing and the (earned) and (spurned). That three headed dog is a scary thought! You told the story with such detail that it sent a shiver down my spine.

This is my favourite stanza, but they are all very good:

O goddess Aphrodite, what's my sin?
You stilled my hand to gift another chance
at love, yet tossed me to the hounds of men
like bloody meat upon the spit, betrayed!
This faithless void, Andrasta fell within.

This poem showcases your talent as a poet and this is one of the best poems I have read recently. A winner for the contest for sure. Love Dolly x x x
