No worries. The language you used in this historical fiction is realistic for the time. The was all at once educational and entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Slavery was a big deal in those days and still is to some people who hold the white folks responsible for what happened a long time ago.
Thanks for setting this issue straight.

Definitely a compelling read. From the first sentence I was gripped with a vivid setting and characters that felt deeply real. The narrative flows effortlessly and the dialogue , to me, is sharp and authentic.

It's an interesting alternative history story. I do think you need more of a hook or defined plot, excitement, mystery, humor, drama, or adventure to hold a reader.
notes:
good 'ole Virgil had had many private lessons for Miss Mabel William,
-good 'ole Virgil had had many private lessons from Miss Mabel William,
Thank you!" Virgil said, almost jumping for joy, not even aware of the fact he could have 40 acres of his own land and a mule to go along with his freedom.
- So why doesn't Mabel or Abraham tell him?
