this is very well written, carolyn and reminds me of a story in my portfolio about the tree that wasn't wanted and when it was chosen, it was to make the cross. he didn't like it but God whispered to him he had a purpose...to soak the blood of the Savior that died for us.

You made a horrific story in a tree's life sound so happy and glorious, Carolyn. I love stories with happy endings and yours had a very good ending indeed. Good old Chubby comes up trumps! Great work,
Neil

Oh how I wish I wasn't all out of 6's!!! This is so deserved of one.
1) this is a great story for learning about self-esteem,
2) this would be fantastic addition to a children magazine because of its simplicity to read, colorfulness and how children can easily relate to,,
3) so creative and imaginative.
This is the best read I had on this site all month. Thank you. John

Thank you John for the great review, I will consider it a 6 anyway since you said it. Smile, and I would love it to be in a magazine. I am recently retired and still researching the best places to publish my work (that provides $$$) Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks for the best on the site comment. You are my hero, Carolyn

This is adorable. I found myself visualizing my nieces sitting on each side of me while I read your very imaginative story to them. The ending was right on target to go with the rest of your story. Great writing.

Hi Carolyn, I loved this story on self-esteem for children.
You have used terminology they would understand and that is so very important.
I think it is off to a great start. Be careful with really long sentences though but that was the only thing I was able to pick up on.
Exceptional first chapter indeed.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks Maureen for your review and encouragement, and yes you are right I do have some long sentences. I am working on those.I am glad you like it. I already have several more stories I will feed them in a little at a time :-) Carolyn

What an adorable story, and quite the opposite of what I expected--you made the trees happy to be cut down and whittled into furniture or logs for a home. As to style, the word choices and sentence lengths seem to fit for children. However, I did find one line to be overlong:
When harvest day came he could hear the saws making a happy buzzing sound as they cut the chosen trees, and he could hear them hit the ground with a thud of laughter, just as if someone was tickling them.
You might want to break this up.

Cute little story about self-esteem. Personally if I was a tree, I'd rather die of old age and naturally than become anything man wants to make of me. I'd rather be what God made me at birth. Me.
So self-esteem is a pride of man that shortens ones life as they hope and pray to be what other men will accept than be what God above wants us to be. Ourselves. God bless and very good story. I always say my two-cents worth. Keep up the great writing.

Thanks for your review. I feel also it is important to be what we are. However, when God told Noah to build the ark of Gopher wood he probably had to cut the tree down. I like you Frank, for your honesty and your two cents worth. God bless you too. :-) Carolyn

I just love this short story. I found it refreshing and original. How creative to make getting cut down a fun experience. Chubby pencils brought a smile to my face. Good job!
