Poem about the smell of bread written in the Nove Otto form. Love the words chosen to depict the bread smell. This poem has nice flow. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I had to love this right away as that picture stayed in my Grandma's house ever since I could remember. Lovely interpretation of this man with his "common" food and showing his appreciation for it. Thanks for the reminder of my little Grandma Gum who lived to be one hundred. (Don't u love that name-Grandma Gum? Real name.)

    Hi Frogbook,

When I saw the Poetry Potlatch topic of a favorite fragrance I immediately thought of this picture (I remembered it from a favorite Aunt's house when I was young.) I went and found the picture and then wrote the poem from there, so in part it is topic driven and in part ekphrastic. Thank you for the wonderful comments. Grandma Gum is an awesome name. She would make an awesome children's book character, don't you think? You should write that.

Dear Kim, Poignant nove otto poem about hunger. There are a lot of homeless and hungry people around where I live, and my heart goes out to them. I myself have had to go to food pantries at times. I liked the religious flavor in your first two lines-thankful for this daily bread, grace is said. Moving picture too. Dove

    Hi Donna,

This one was both topic and ekphrastic driven. Ekphrastic is inspired by artwork. As soon as I read the Poetry Potlatch topic of our favorite fragrance, this famous picture popped into my head. I went and found the photo and wrote the poem from that inspiration. I'm so glad that you enjoyed this piece and found the deeper meaning, aside from the scent of baking bread. Thank you for taking the time to read and review.

This is a well written Nove Otto Poem, Kim. I like this form, and will try it some time. In particular I love your slaked/ached rhyme. "Slake" is a word one seldom reads/sees. Perfect choice of picture to complement your poem about saying Grace. - - Connie

    Hi Connie,

When I read the Potlatch topic I thought of that famous picture and entertainment to find it for the poem. I am not sure if this poem is ekphrastic or topic driven. A little of both, I think. Thanks for the great comments.

thank you for sharing the challenge potlatch about the smell of bread. This is indeed a lovely smell, and I feel your pain about limited carbs. Bread becomes a thing of the past! You did a good job with the syllable count and rhyming scheme.

Good artwork. It would be nicer if it were a whole family. Quality time at the table. I'm just saying... A fitting poem for Sunday dinner. Great visual imagery created. Well thought out and nicely written. Good lyrical flow of rhythm and rhymes. Good. Have a nice week!

Lovely artwork and perfect nove otto form to pair the two. I could hear his stomach rumble and agree heartily with the sentiment that hunger cares not if it is a feast for kings. - Wendy

10-4 on the smell of homemade bread. And my granny's hoecake and homemade soup would make ya swallow yer tongue.(Mom and wife hated peppers and their
soup and chili was bland.) Dark chilly afternoon in Georgia, raining hard, and I can't stop rattling the keyboard. Oh, excellent nove otto.

Oh gosh! Now I'm hungry for some soup and warm bread. :) You've definitely captured the wonderful way home cooked meals make us feel. This is skillfully written and left me with such a cozy, comfortable feeling. And what fabulous artwork to accompany your piece! Great work! :)

    Hi Jenna:

This classic picture popped into my mind when I saw the topic. I went and found it and then wrote the poem. I'm not sure it is topic driven or ekphrastic, perhaps a bit of both lol Thanks for the great review.
