This poem, The Homecoming, through the AABBCC rhyme scheme and iambic pentameter introduces us to the fourteen minute, twenty-four second centiday. This must be metrics gone wild.

Only slightly less useful than a beard-minute, I would think. (Yes, allegedly that is a real thing, and is what you might imagine). Cheers, Craig

Cute poem, : )
I read, and thought to let you know I read and enjoyed, though my reviewing is suffering a bit, and for that I apologize.
This poem, if considered from a dog's pov, it does well to capture that sense of singular importance with a unit of time that is fractional to a day... with how it's perceived dog years as a fraction of time.
Me, I confiscated this poem as a plea from me to my confidence. Or my muses, or my little people--the ones who whisper stories in my imagination. Without them, I think I feel a bit like a pup waiting by the door.

Then I hope they never leave you for a lengthy span of time, Turtle. Thanks for yet another great review - Craig
Comment from Gloria ....
Ha, the funniest part about this poem, Craig is the command that no correspondence will be entered into. Okay, I'm good to go with that. So who is the poem really about? lol.
I'm sorry, this is great fun even with a strange word that I figure will come in very handy one of these centidays.
Good fun!

I thank you and my doggie thanks, you, Gloria. If you think centiday is a weird measure of time, try beard-minute; which is exactly what it sounds like :) Cheers, Craig

A very well-written poem. Our dogs are truly lost without their best friends for the times we have to leave them. They hang around the house and sometimes find something to do that ends up in a big mess.

Your dogs sound very much like ours, Sandra. Some of the things our dogs have found to do would make your toes curl, I'm sure. But how can you stay angry with them, when they are so overjoyed to see you? Many thanks, Craig

Well done. There is nothing like the affection of a dog. Neediness, too. Glad you mentioned it was a dog story. Are you sure? I look forward to your next word.

Of course it's a dog story, what else could it be? ;-)
Many thanks, Debbie.

This is a sweet poem, Craig, that aptly conveys the meaning of the word 'centiday'. Very nice sentiments expressed here. One knows that they are truly loved when they're wanted and needed every "centiday". ~~ Connie

Craig, This is a very well written poem about a little dog (or big) waiting on his master to come home. You used great descriptive words and great imagery with your words and the note! I enjoyed reading it! Blessings, Teri

Many thanks for the lovely review, Teri. In our case it would be two medium-sized dogs. Glad you enjoyed it :) Craig

I have to wonder if there is a practical purpose for a word denoting 14 minutes and twenty-four seconds? Sure, it can be used in a sentence, but that doesn't make it practical. Don't mind me, I'm just pondering. I suppose a centiday might be relevant when calculating orbits and such. Otherwise . . .
Back to your poem. Cute, and very appropriate from a dog's point of view.
Peace, Lee

I have to agree, Lee. Although, I don't see it being any less useful than a microfortnight, or a beard-second (which means pretty much what you might think it means). Thanks for the kinds words, Craig.

You've got me there.
Microfortnight (noun): How long it takes to nuke a frozen Wooly Mammoth.

Okay, I accept the no correspondence.
But I am at liberty to comment, and this dog seems so human I'd exchange him with a lot of my human friends. Who wouldn't want such love and devotion just for themselves?
This is also the second time I read about you mentioning this book by Paul Anthony Jones. Maybe it is about time I got myself a copy.
Excellent and enjoyable.

It is a useful little book to have. It's also only about $10 on Amazon, from memory - for hardcover. (I'm not on any sort of kickback, just happy to let people know it's available, if they're interested). Many thanks for the kind review - Craig

My mistake - hardcover is $22, Kindle $8 today - that must be the version that was $10.
