A cute picture you chose to accompany your poem. You really do a lot with clever word play like 5-heaven-5 and puppy in the title. Nice job. Good luck in the contest. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Yo Bill, either I've had one shot too many or you just missed me on this one. I have no response to this because I just do not get any part of this. I probably should not be drinking shots of Brandy and trying to read and comprehend your poems, so put the blame on me completely.

My point is that these contests are typically won by cutesy poems about love and puppy dogs.
-
Yeah, and why do you think that is?

Okay, so this is a really funny swipe at the polls and such....even heard jokes about 'pulling the puppy card' .... Definitely entertaining! :) Thank you for sharing and good luck in the contest, sir! Yvette

It?s only a contest if you?ve a chance to win.
Comment from Dean Kuch
Yeah, that's about the gist of it, Bill.
Don't forget babbling brooks, rivulets of rain, risque romance and the elderly and aged.
But not I, no sir!
Gimme cemeteries crawling with crusty corpses, ghastly ghouls and gaunt ghosts.
I REFUSE to suck up to the masses and conform to normality.
That's why my funny money account is nearly empty, heh-heh.

I am being ironic with this, of course, Dean.

And I ain't?
Hahahaha...
Comment from Gloria ....
Well Bill this is really very clever and particularly the last line that captures the five/seven/five in a rhyme with the missing seven from heaven made up with the too.
Very cool and I wish you much luck with the contest committee.

This is very clever. You have a penchant for variety in your work. Your grandchildren must love this haiku. It is very appealing and would make a great poster.

Don't forget current issues in which you take the politically correct position. Those subjects are what makes for success in the contest, that's for sure. Having a picture of a sweet baby or a homeless veteran gets the votes, too. In a contest I entered recently, a dogs and cats poem beat mine. You have the precise 5-7-5 syllables required for the contest. Good luck! judi

Thanks, Judi. I guess the little, old ladies who judge these like to stay close to the sentimental theme. That should be explained in the prompt: cutesy wootsy only
-
I think you've got it! That would make a good contest. Cutesy-wootsy poems only. judi

This is very clever. Yes, the short forms--5-7-5's, lunes, and tankas
especially--are often about the topics you listed above. Sometimes
we get all of these in the same poem! :-)

But you have to agree they are mostly positive unless you don't count the broken hearts, right? I enjoyed your 575 contest entry. Good job on the syllable count per line. Your picture is perfect for your fun words. I like the use of "Heaven' in line 3 where it should be seven. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Jan

Thought I?d sneak a subliminal in there for the judges.
