Good Morning, Rod!
What a lovely, nostalgic poetic offering that definitely resonates with this reader. How I longed to read as the youngest child in a family of readers. My family always read after dinner every evening, and at ages 3 - 4, while I enjoyed the camaraderie, what I truly desired was to be able to read by myself. By age five, I was also in the mix - thanks to my parents and sisters.
Congratulations on your win. And thank you for the memory!

Hi Diane. I am so pleased I could conjure up memories of your youth when you learned to read. I enjoyed writing this poem for my granddaughter who was the model for ?Sis.? She?s eight now and reads everything I give her. Many thanks for the high praise and those six bright stars. Rod

Hello Rod, Congratulations! I can see why you won the Rhyme contest. A lovely poem - very sweet story in this poem - lovely ending '"If you have dreams, work hard for them and you'll succeed." Warm regards Dorothy

Nice poem. And isn't it something that some kids can read at that young age. I'm so glad to hear of kids wanting to read. Everything is on their little computers these days - and that's not so good for them. Reading is enlightening.
Good poem - flowed smoothly.

Thank you, Gail, for sharing I WANT TO READ. Yes, some kids can?t read soon enough, like my granddaughter who is ?Sis? in the poem. Glad you liked it. Rod

This poem actually made me smile. Firstly, it reminds me of the relationship I have with my younger sister. Also, it reminds me of my own impatience with learning new things. It is all worded so well. I genuinely thank you for writing this.

Very inspiring poem. Touches most of us who like to write poetry and particularly rhyming variety. A very cute connection between brother and sister and one can see that little girl stomping her feet. Well done, but I see you have already won it, so congratulations on a great write. Carol

Congratulations on winning the contest with this lovely poem, Rod.
The message it sends shows Daddy's aspirational influence. The characters of the children shine through your lines as well. The choice of that delightful illustration is perfect.

Thank you so much for your kind praise of I WANT TO READ, Lisa. I think my wife had a greater effect on my children?s reading habits than I did. My granddaughter was the inspiration for ?Sis? in this poem. She?s been reading since she was four. Rod

hello Rod,
Easy to see why fanstorians would relate to your story poem
of a brother teaching his impatient sister the world of words.
Nicely written with its exact rhymes.
Congratulations on the win!

This is wonderful. I love poems that rhyme and this one is perfect. I also like the idea of a child wanting to read, rather then watch TV. We need kids like that. Thanks for sharing this.
