Such a beautiful and heart-touching story in a poem... love the way you've linked emotions to the surrounding nature (as the sound of cicadas definitely have a unique tie for many!) - well done! ;) Would only suggest, perhaps using a word in place of the number of "suddenly" occurrences...for some reason, they 'stand out'... ;) :) Thanx for sharing and best of luck! ;)

Thank you, U.M. Your warm words encourage me in my writing and in my relating to cicadas.
Ah, overuse of "suddenly." I will take care of that.
Peace and joy in writing,
Aaron

Dear Gypsy Blue,
Thanks for your encouraging words. Anything you'd like to see changed? If so, how so?

I was confused the first time I read your poem. You through me off when the dying man called the cicadas his brothers. But after reading the author notes I get it. I'm from Spain and we also have angels of Mercy to cross to the other side. It's an awesome story...very unique and well written. I wouldn't change anything.

Dear Gypsy Blue,
OK I received one vote. Does not concern me that I am writing just for you. Most folks don't know what to do with Angels and many are annoyed by cicadas.
You say, "I'm from Spain and we also have angels of Mercy to cross to the other side."
Ooooo, I'm interested. Can you tell me more about this or send me to a site that gives me the details?
Peace,
Aaron

I was told by my family and school that an angel guided me through life and when I die to get to the other side. We even have a special prayer.
We call the angel, Angel de la guardia.
Prayer
Angel of my guard, sweet company, do not forsake me, neither by night nor by day, Do not leave me alone, I would lose myself, Until you put me, in peace and joy, with all the saints, Jesus and Mary, I give you my heart and soul that are more yours than mine. Amen.

Alas, I suspect Angel de la guardia is what we call "my guardian angel." When I was a young boy, my dear mother explained to me that God loved me. "How so?" I would ask. "God has given you, my dear son, an angel whose mission is to guide and protect you." I must admit that it was comforting to know that God took a personal interest in my welfare. Before going to sleep at night, my mother would turn the lights out and take me in her arms and together we would recite the standard prayer to our guardian angels: "Angel of God, my guardian near. . . ."
Peace and joy,
Aaron
