You have several strong metaphors in this poem. The question at the end is a universal question. You will definitely draw the reader in as they identify with the same sentiments as those expressed in this poem. The setting is metaphorical about the reader's life as things ebb and flow.

This is an excellent poem, Jim. I like your internal musings being the theme of this verse. We all find ourselves pondering life questions when we go wading... at least I do. I loved it!

I don't think I'm quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet, it feels as though it has gone by in a flash. I say this, though I think autumn and winter are my favourite seasons. A well written piece. I enjoyed reading it.

I thought this sounded like a six star poem! You captured the feeling that I get at the end of the summer and it's time to say goodbye to the lake and all that goes with it. Every year when vacation is over and we've packed our suitcases and load up the car, everyone knows that I have to have my time to go to the water (Lake Erie is behind the cottage) and say goodbye until next year! I love your poem and the picture you put with it. I swear you wrote it from my mind as well as yours! Thank you for sharing this piece. You made my day!

Patty, what a truly wonderful gift 💝. I love that you connected deeply with this poem. The wonder that comes with special places we get to spend enjoying the world around us does offer a healing and appreciation for all the good times in life.

Your poem is lovely, descriptive, and thought-provoking. It--to me--implies a thought I've had numerous times since March; it is stated in your last line. The pandemic has wormed its way into our daily concept of life.

Janice, yes this COVID wormhole has gotten to each and everyone of us. We can only pray that we have fewer months ahead than from which we have struggled through.

Hello JLR, this is a lovely ekphrastic poem - your words are lovely. Good use of metaphor in 'warm water licking my thighs digging into my thoughts of, Why? Well written with unanswered questions. Very good. Warm regards, Dorothy x

Dorothy, thank you for commenting on my poem, may your weekend be filed with abundant joy!
Comment from Susan Louise Gabriel
The poem has some really excellent poetic language, in particular - "warm water licking my thighs" and "digging into my thoughts." When I read the line "pushing along with gliding steps" I felt my body identifying with the feeling of doing just that.
Well done!

This is a poignant write about what the future holds in the current climate as we move into another season and ponder how tough life could be as the days become shorter, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
