Your lovely, heartfelt and well written verse for Remembrance Day, honoring those brave young men who died on the many battle fields during wartime, was quite touching and eloquently worded, Gary. Lest we forget, indeed...
All gave some, yet some gave all...
Well done!~Dean

A sad write.
I do think that most young men long for their mothers when they are felled in war.
Would that all mothers would unite and end war.

The war to end all wars...if only it was true. Beautifully written piece my friend. I wrote a couple of poems dealing with the war in Afghanistan but have never tackled the subject on a grander scale. This was truly well written.

War robs the participating countries of their young. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read.

Excellent poem, Deepwater. I can see why I found at the top of the list on the home page. Only one small note to consider:
My time has come to meet the foe, we go hand to hand -- Check spacing after comma

War is a terrible, a viscous act ...Young men die for fighting for their country & so many perish...Just have some difficulty with the word hallowed, which means blessed...Though, referring to those beautiful poppies growing, ironically, almost the color of the blood shed & the history of the land, that might be where you might look at it as hallowed land...And, too, being blessed that young lives taken in sight of God & grace...Though, think war is not a graceful deed...Even, though a lot of my immediate family members have been through so many different ones...Think, the respect comes with the fighting for their country & the dignity of doing just that & a cause, be it so humble..If possible.

What a message!! Wonderfully written. It's such a sad poem to read about these young men calling to their mother's. I could cry for I have two sons, and 5 grandsons who could have to face war time. One never knows. You wrote this so excellently. Bravo!

Death and dying lay around - lie
good internal rhyme in lost and cost
good alliteration in blood we bleed
laying up on this land - lying
good internal rhyme in tell/fell
good alliteration in God and grace
strong expression of emotion
vivid detail of setting
a powerful look at the destruction and devastation of war

Hi GW,
A beautiful tribute the those who have fallen, as well as those families left behind.
My son is a Master Chief in the Navy. He just celebrated '27' years in service, and I am 27 years proud of him - and most lucky nothing has happened to him.
Nicely done.
Cheers & Blessings
