Nice work. My father was much like this giving advice through essays and poems; he would e-mail them to his grandchildren and to me. I miss him. Well done. God bless.

A melancholic, sad poem about our journey in life:
" Memories of life which I have lived with all the discomforts, some glory
Regrets from the past did set my road, which I was made to follow
Never knowing my quest or what lay ahead as I walk this avenue, some sorrow"
I think that the book as a whole will be original and philosophic.

There is not much to say when your time has come. If men can only speak good of you, then you have had a good life. Very well written.

The content of your poems is always good, Gary, but might I say (hope u don't mind) that sometimes you include words which are not necessary... i.e...
As I lay at rest, did my life pass the test [that was] set by my father before?
As I lay at rest, did my life pass the test set by my father before me? - thus missing out "that was" What do you think? Just ignore if not in agreement, my friend.
Margaret.

A powerful self eulogy you have penned here, reminiscing on what you have done with your life, what you have learned, some regrets, but the knowledge that it is time to lay down, and hopefully you have left examples and words which will be remembered by your family.
Thanks for sharing and warmest regards, Marijke

deepwater:
we all have some regrets but I
suspect you have more things on
the positive side than on the
negative. We must do the very best
we can as we journey through life
and try to leave our little corner
of the world better than it was when
we arrived. great poem. love, jan

I like it a lot. You have some really good lines in this reflective work.I like the variation in your rhyming scheme. I also like the way the last line returns to the first, leaving the reader resigned and contented. JeffreyStone

This is one of your best.
Leaves one to seriously think about their own trials, tribulations, and triumphs.
I really like that you opened and closed with 'But now comes the time to lay me down on this cold October morn_'
Thank you for sharing.

Such a touching story of life. We all have our triumphs and our struggles. You set the tone perfectly. I enjoyed reading this and you did a great job with it.
