For an animal lover, this short succinct flash fiction story tugs at the heart. The writing is artistically crafted with excellent imagery, beginning with the rising fog in the heat of Africa and ending with a single shot aimed at a golden pelt. Great writing. Best wishes in the contest.

Your tale is true to life, many animals are killed by poachers in Africa. The reader can see the world and the hunt through the eyes of the lioness. Excellent flash fiction tale that is true to life.

This Flash Fiction is well thought, and expressed, has a good taletelling with a twist, the lioness kills zebras, if missed she tried, now she hunted last for she is killed by poachers; well said, well done; thanks for sharing this. ALCREATOR

This must be an oft-repeated tragedy around the world with wildlife poaching. You've described this particular scene with good observational detail and drama to draw the reader in. It is stated in a low-key way but the single shot heralding her death has emotional impact.

Hello Lisa, Thanks so much for reading, glad you liked. Too many of our wildlife are killed for greed. At least the rangers can shoot the poachers now. Blessings, Kay xx
Comment from Gloria ....
I think this is a fine flash fiction story, K. You tug at the heart strings of your reader, with foreshadowing as we sense that the lioness is about to face some kind of demise.
Great descriptions of the veldt and the huntress's aging sleekness as she sadly is pegged off by a poacher.
I wish you great luck with the Committee with this fiction tale. :))

Poachers need to stop taken our wildlife before there is nothing left of the beautiful wildlife for all to see and visit. It is a shame their laws are severe enough to make them quit for the good of these poor animals. They have a hard life as it is.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the killing of wildlife. They have almost destroyed the silver back gorillas and elephants for profit. Now, the rangers can shoot them on sight! Blessings, Kay.

Such a sad end for such a glorious creature. She hunts out of instinct to survive. Man hunts for sport and ego. Nature is getting out of balance - and man is the one wbo ultimately will suffer in the end. An emotionally stirring piece with great imagery.

This is a great story Kace with a dramatic ending that did not have to be explained - we know the end. So sad! You write this type of story so well. It's a hard life for these animals - they kill to survive. Man could learn lessons from them. We are a pretty disgusting species and getting worse. Good luck in the contest - hope you win. Love Dorothy xx

Hello Dorothy, Yes, man has much to answer for. Did you know Princess Anne had her own deer to kill? Not now though. Animals are precious and they only kill for food, man kills for ego. Love, Kay xx

The hunter becomes the hunted! Really nice short story. Reading the description almost feels like a painting is coming to life. I'm not sure why but this story reminded me of Bambi.
