What a precious little dog, Tom. I loved reading your tribute
to him. Your photos are awesome. You described his life as
part of the family. Yes, all pets should be. Buddy adopted you
and let you be part of his Iife.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan

It was a lifetime of memories. He was so much like... me. Handsome, cantankerous, doing as he pleased. Yep. That confirms it.

Oh, Tom, I am so sorry for your loss! I have a hard time imaging anything much worse. I've been through it just this year, and many times in my life, and I miss each and every one of my dogs AND cats that are no longer blessing my life.

Your Buddy sounds like he was an absolute charmer -- thank you for sharing him with us!

Love and prayers,
Dawn

Tom,

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved dog. I sobbed for three days when I lost my first one. I couldn't even stay at work. I think I cried for every thing and every one I would ever lose. He was my soul mate and I would awake to see his brown eyes staring at my face. Fortunately we had several other dogs at the time, who were all happy to accept the extra love we had to give. But it still didn't fill the void. I understand your grief. Know that it is justified. Our dogs know the meaning of unconditional love and dispense it with abandon. They deserve the same in return.

This story is touching, it is both memorable and well-written. I had dogs when I was a child/teen, they were my best friends. Always leal, always caring. I had the impression they understood me better than humans.

I think Buddy did understand me best. We were two peas from the same pod. It was a lifetime of memories. Handsome, cantankerous, doing as he pleased. Yep. That confirms it, we were twins.

I fear the only answer is to learn to love the void, although of course it can never hold a candle to the reality. You've done a great job of conveying personality and affection throughout this, and it makes for a beautiful read, albeit with a heart-breaking end.
