I enjoyed your story. I can understand people wanting to honor Mother Teresa but being the humble person she was, it is likely she would say no She never wanted to call attention to herself. The statue that lit up the Empire State Building meant death. It was meant to call attention the death of wildlife rather than to honor the mythical God. Your story works well for the contest On the other hand. I like poem you included.

Thank you so much for sharing this information! I didn't know that the Empire State Building was lit up for any particular reason. But you are right that Mother Teresa would never be offended. I think she didn't like all the fame and notoriety she received. She only wanted to help those that society abandoned. Loved the quoted poem, too! Best wishes in the contest!

Yes, she was an example to us all, as have many others, such as the martyrs who spoke the truth and were slaughtered for it. Mother Teresa was a great example of not caring about the opinions of men, (which is a great way to inner freedom) the Indian man who is credited as the inspirer of the Christian song, "I have decided" to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back" it's my inspiration too, his whole and he , were cut down, but the village came to faith becaise of it, with God's help..., bless you for this article, beautifully written, blessings Roy

You're more than welcome, and thank you for your kind review. I've replaced The Empire State Building with The Chrysler Building as my favorite in New York because of it's reprehensible action toward Mother Teresa and our Christian beliefs.

This was a wonderful story about one of the truly great people of our time. The world seems upside down at times, and contradictions and hypocrisy abound, but Mother Teresa's creed helps us to deal with that which is wrong in the world. That poem which you chose was so illustrative of not only her beliefs, but of what it takes to stand up to the evil and hypocrisy which is rampant.
This was a very well-written piece about a good person who should be an inspiration to all. Jim

Mother Teresa died the same year as Princess Diana. I remember it being 1997. Mother Teresa was such an icon. So very humble and grateful to be able to help the poor. I remember a picture of Princess Diana posing with Mother Teresa. The poem was truly wonderful to read.
