This is a very enjoyable story. Ava knows horses well and knows how to treat them. This would be such a good story for teens, especially girls. There are, at this point, no boys to mess things up and she is a very competent girl.

Hi Carol Hillebrenner,
I'm so glad you are enjoying the story of Ava and the horses. I appreciate the suggestion about making this story for teens. Girls do like horses.
Again, have a great week.

Oh Debi, this is beautifully written. I've had many horses and I can see from this that you know your way around them. I will have to go back and read from the beginning. All best, Ulla:)))

Hello Debi,
Carpe libertatem
Another excellent chapter with marvelous description of the interaction of Ava and the last of the horses. The constant talk establishes the connection with the horse and allows calm to replace panic. Like people, it's always good to know you're not alone. There is an instinct to seize freedom.
And now for the goat, which might actually be the most useful animal if you're stranded on an island.
Well done.
Best wishes.

Nicely written.
Lucky you and lucky horse. The door could have been damaged beyond opening without serious tools and work. Why not take the goat on the same trip?
Best wishes.

Hi Wayne Fowler,
Thank you for the encouraging comment about the writing.
Yes, lucky the door still moved. Usually, if it's off-track you can still move it if it isn't bent too much.
Take the goat at the same time? You're braver than I am. LOL
Have a great week.

Hi Iza Deleanu,
it would be cruel to leave the goat alone, wouldn't it? Thank you for the encouraging comment about looking forward to the next chapter. Have a great week.

Even as yearlings, young horses have great strength, they can be temperamental, and are quite dangerous as many a jockey has found out to his temperament.thanks for sharing your knowledge and love of horses, beautifully written Debi, blessings Roy

Oh wow, that was a tense time that you described so vividly! Your excellent knowledge of horses enabled this whole scene to be palpable to the reader, whether it be the sounds, smell, sight etc. I'm so relieved that he's out of the stall, I can tell you:) Well done! Debbie

I'm amazed at how calm and relaxed you are with an excited horse. I'm guessing a yearling is more afraid in unknown situations than an older horse with more experience. I'm glad you were able to open the stall door to get the young horse out. I can't wait to see where all this leads.

Hi LJbutterfly,
I guess I am basing Ava on my experience with horses. I remember once, I was driving some of my employer's horses to a horse show. The wife was in the pickup with me. The wheel came off the horse trailer. She loved telling everyone all day how calmly I said to her, "We just lost a wheel," as it rolled by in front of us. I still remember how a whole group of people came running from the parking lot to help. LOL.
Thank you for your comments and insights. Thank you for sticking with the story. Have a wonderful week.

I am positive this yearling will be very happy to be back with his friends. All we have left it the goat. I happen to be very fond of goats. Their antics always make me laugh. Of course, I've never had to deal with them, just watch them. Thank you for sharing. I am enjoying reading this.

Seize the day! That was tense! I was holding my breath at one point. I suppose the goat will probably just follow along quietly. It is amazing how well goats and horses get along. Once we had three baby goats and the horses would let them play king of the hill on their backs when they were laying down. Well done debi!ð??? Nancy:)

Hi Nancy,
Thank you for the encouraging review and your comments about horses and goats. When I worked on a horse breeding farm, we had one nervous colt. We put a got in with him to calm him down. The goat often slept right on top of the horse when he was laying down We finally had to take the goat out because he was eating the colt's mane and tail. Have a wonderful week.
