This was a beautifully written and haunting free verse poem about one of the truly horrible periods in the history of man--the Shoah. Your imagery is so vivid and perfectly illustrates the horror and ignominy of that time. Your occasional use of alliteration also helps emphasize the points you are making about this awful period and those who foisted it upon the world and especially the Jews. It is indeed a good reminder of the fact that it never seems to end. - Jim

Thanks, Jim. My state in Australia has only just brought in legislation banning the Nazi salute and swastika in response to a very public rise in far-right anti-semitism. Events in the Poland parliament recently - the country that is home to Auschwitz - are so disgusting.

Yes, and now it seems the antisemitism is spreading to the left as well. You should see what's been happening in America's universities lately with administrators and many leftist students refusing to denounce calls by Hamas to eliminate Israel and the Jews.

Did I see that a leader in one of the Ivy League schools was recently forced to stand down for not condemning the actions of Hamas?

Yes. She would not admit that calls for genocide violated the schools speech rules. Shameful.

Well done of course. The old saying is.. If you do not learn from history you are doomed to repeat it. Some people simply refuse to learn. If it isn't yours leave it alone. That seems simple enough you would think.
Have a good week. Karen

Haunting imagery! All tragedies make me think, 'Why?' How can someone be so cruel and for so long too? The monumental calamity of six million innocent lives still sends shivers down my spine. And it's so incredibly shocking and sorrowful that it's happening right now, as we speak. Your beautiful poem highlights why we need to remember and the cost of forgetting. It's a tectonic shame that the world let them suffer and that we haven't learned a thing. I particularly liked that you opted for no capitalization because it really settles in the incredible disdain.

Very good poem Navada about the Holocaust....
Hopefully it will never be forgotten or put aside.
AntiSemitism is on the rise all over the world and this is frightening.

This work has reached the exceptional level

I have just finished a novel about the holocaust, called Ashes in the Snow, by Oriana Ramunno, an incredible read (but very hard to read). Your brilliant poem reminded me of this horror. Very well expressed. May these poor people never be forgotten.

Thank you so much for your generous six stars, Wendy - greatly appreciated. I'll keep an eye out for the book you mentioned. I've read and studied many Holocaust survivor memoirs and they're all chilling and disturbing, but important for us to remember so that this kind of behaviour can't be repeated.
