This touches me profoundly, not only because it is so well written but because it touches a personal nerve. My daughter died at the age of 36, and one of the two little girls she reluctantly left behind was 7 years old at the time, just your age (the other was 10). Both girls have grown into fine young women and each of them retain some of their mother's best qualities, so they are a treasured link of ongoingness for me and others. Some of my deepest grief in this situation has been for the suffering of these precious little granddaughters. I'm so glad you got help and have resolved some of the issues so beautifully. Your last line is very comforting to me: "I will thank her for giving me the best part of her life and loving me like no other." And also the thought that she was your "first true love." My best to you, Jeanie Mercer

My heart goes out for all that your granddaughters missed out on; I can tell you were a strong and loving influence on them and making things easier to be the best of your ability. What a gift you are to them!!! I have come to accept the situation only because I try not to dwell on the many subtle ways my mother would have helped me navigate through life. A good tribute to your late mother. I cannot say it made good reading, but it showed how much you loved her. The impressions and feelings one gets at a young age last long.

I really liked your memory of your mother,she must have meant a lot to you. Losing someone you love is not something to take lightly. I lost my grandfather in 1988 to lung cancer and he meant the world to me just as your mother must have meant to you.
