I've read about those caves, and would give a lot to see them myself.
I love your use of rhyme here and the creative wording. I love anything about cave people/times. I've always been fascinated.
I don't suppose he would think such deep thoughts, but it makes or a beautiful poem. Thank you.

Poem about writing in early ages written in the quarter form. The artwork works well with this piece. This poem flows nicely. Thank you for sharing this piece of poetry.

Kim,
This is a great quatern. You did a great job with its style. The repeated lines fit in seamlessly & add to the meaning each time.
I like this form although it takes a lot of work to do it right--well anything does really. But you did a great job.
I would love to see some of the original cave paintings. I know in places, some ??? have destroyed these works.
It is amazing to think that cavemen had these thoughts that we are seeing/reading today. I love history. You did a great job with your approach.
The quatern isn't used as much on FS. As to your notes--GREAT! So informative. I do not know the origins of the quatern. Maybe Jim will reply.
Good job & thanks for this wonderful addition to your book. Jan

Hi Jan,
With the roots of the quatern dating back to possibly the middle ages, I'm just not sure why there aren't more of them around. I enjoy this style. Hopefully, Jim will be able to shed some light. Thanks for the fantastic review. There are a lot of pictures if you google the caves. This particular one has allowed public visitors since 1929.

A lovely poem, my friend with a great selection of repeating line. I'm curious about the author notes. It seems rather strange if the form has been around for so long~DEbbie

Hi Debbie,
That is exactly what I thought, on the author notes. If anyone sheds any light I'll update :) Thanks for the kind review.

You convey the yearning of leaving a mark very effectively.
my legacy to bestow it.
And today you are a poet.
and you make the form seem easy.:-)) Z.

Such a creative premise for a poem, and a terrific addition to your Echoes of Artistry. It doesn't echo back any further than the cave man! :) I'd venture to guess that cavemen were drawing pictures even before they began learning to speak. I could be wrong.
"If meters off will I know it?
Will centuries refine and hone? ... love these lines!
Great write, Kim!

Hi Connie,
My reading indicates that they probably communicated through the pictures, if not verbally. Thanks for the great review!

Comment from Apostle Janos
Interesting poetic form, it gives a sense of one-ness. I'm assuming you mean poet in the wider sense, as someone engaged in creative acts, therefore the cave painters fit that description, as they should. Inventive rhyming as well, kudos!

Hi Apostle Yannaras,
Creativity had to begin somewhere, I imagine, from their art, that it was in those caves. Thank you for taking the time to read and review.

Hi Kim; thank you for sharing this quatern poem about the writings of the cavemen and their influence on today's writings. It is a wonder how their words have been preserved for us to read, and leads to speculation about how long our own words will be seen.

My favorite formal form and a great poem to boot. What's not to like? The questions posed are wonderful and the fun self reflection made me smile. In particular:
rage and desire ignite my write
My legacy - - bestow it.
and the entire last stanza.
First one with my morning coffee and a big smile on my face . . .so much better than a yawn. - Wendy
