Oh, I'm so sorry, Craig. What a beautiful dog. Many times, I've been through this heartache myself and I know what you are going through. We love them so much and miss them when they're gone. I believe we will see them again. Marilyn

Thanks very much for the kind and supportive words, Marilyn, and for the very generous rating. It's been a very long time since I last lost a four-legged companion, it never gets any easier. Most grateful, Craig

Hi Craig, this is such a lovely and heartfelt sonnet for a beloved pet--a member of your family! I thought everything about this poem exuded love and nostalgia for your canine friend. I also have an elderly pup I care for, so this write hit close to home for me as well. My condolences to you and your family for your loss.

Thanks very much, Pam, for the lovely, kind words. Misty, and her adopted sister, Bella, are like our children, so to lose her hit very hard, even though she was quite elderly, for her breed. The pain of loss, I'm sure, recedes with time, but for the moment I'm still missing her every time I look around, or move about the place. Most grateful, Craig

Ah CD - I am so sorry to hear about Misty. She was about the age our dog was when she died - Blodwen. She got that name because she was a Welsh Sealyham. So I know how you are feeling. But you gave her a good life and she gave you much pleasure. Your poem reads so well in sonnet form with good abab rhyme and iambic pentameter. A lovely, very sad final couplet. Well written tribute to your beloved pet. Warm regards Dorothy

Thank you very much for the lovely words, Dorothy. She and her adopted sister, Bella, are like children to us, so it hit hard. Time heals, so they say. For the moment, I still hope to see her everywhere I go around the place. Most grateful, Craig

Hi Craig, you will hear Misty. I used to hear Blodwen then realize she was not there - it is a strange experience. Dx

Gosh, I am so sorry for your loss of your loyal and loving companion. It is absolutely heartbreaking to lose a pet, but sadly something that we must all endure if we want to have the joys that they bring to us as well. It is definitely the hardest part of having pets though. This is such a lovely tribute to a clearly much adored dog. Writing is a great way to express your feelings and get them out of you- at least that's what I have found. I lost my childhood dog when I was 14 and I was just gutted. I now have 2 cats and couldn't imagine being without them but then also I'm realistic enough to know that one day I will have to be without them so I feel the pain and heartbreak you must be suffering right now. Keep writing, it helps. Lovely memorial.

Oh, Craig,

I'm so sorry. It is an awful thing to lose a beloved pet. We are never really ready, even when we know it could come. Dogs aren't supposed to live as long as humans, but we do always have hope.

Sending you hugs,

~patty~

Yes, knowing we will almost certainly outlive them doesn't make it any easier. Thanks so much for the kind words, Patty. Craig

Aww, Craig. I hate to hear things like this. It truly breaks my heart, and my heart's as black as coal and as hard as stone...most times. Except when it comes to a friend losing a beloved pet--especially a dog.
You might say poems of this nature are my Achilles heel as they pertain to making me feel emotion.
Our pets are more than "just animals". They are as much a part of our families as anyone else.
Fourteen-years is an awfully long time.
Our hearts go out to you.
There's a very good reason D-O-G spelled in reverse spells GOD.
Here's a video by Ms. Wendy Francisco in Misty's honor.
RIP, Misty...

Very delightful videos, both, Dean. In the second one, I regard one of the subjects as superior to humans in most ways that count :-) Of all the animals on Earth, I guess it would take a very special one to be willing to voluntarily associate with us. Many thanks for the kind words - Craig

What a lovely tribute to the wonderful relationship you obviously had with Misty. Our pets are family and they will forever reside in our hearts - however broken they may be at the moment. Cherish those sweet memories of good times. The sun will shine again and you will smile whenever you think of her.

Excellent. What a lovely tribute to your passed family member. Anyone who has connected with a dog knows how they become part of a family. Nice rhyming and pacing. Sorry for your loss. Hugh

This is a beautiful poem and wonderful tribute to Misty. I also have a post on my beloved Baxter who passed this year. it is a haiku. I'd love you to take a look on my profile. I so relate to your love and loss.
