This poem entwines ballet with making love. The melding of movements to music and bodies to each other is beauty. Love should always be this flowing and easy.

dp,
I know this is strange but I never once thought of this work depicting the work of lovemaking. I was just trying to create the true vision in heart, soul and body of the dance. I suppose my subconscious took over..lol.. thank you so very much for stopping by to read and review my work. I am honored..jlsavell

I think sometimes that happens. It is good that a poem can be interpreted in more than one way.
You're welcome.

Yes, watching a masterly dancing couple flowing, leaping, spinning, and all else they do in perfect harmony is indeed a delight; and their motion certainly is akin to lovemaking at its best.
The 1933 through 1939 plus 1949 partnership of Fred Astaire (1899-1987) and Ginger Rogers (1911-1995) will always be remembered by anyone who saw any of their films together. He even danced on the walls and ceiling in the movie, Royal Wedding (1951).
I have not owned a television for many years, but have watched a few snippets of "Dancing with the Stars" on YouTube; so I understand your fascination with it. I just don't have time for passive sitting.
My sister and I won a Twist contest when I was seventeen and she was twelve (1960) because we were the only dancers who could do it correctly plus all the "breaks" we had learned. I have not had a dance partner for many years, but in her late sixties my sister and her boyfriend (a professional dance instructor born in Argentina) were still running rings around the teenagers doing the Argentine Tango at dance clubs in New York City.
Whatever your chronological age, you are still young if you have not lost interest in finding a loving partner; so never give up.
Thank you for including in this superb post what has become my favorite rendition of Ravel's Bolero.

Walker Man,
How are you? It is an honor for you to stop by and read my work. Yes, this is a superb version of Bolero.
Argentine Tango is one of my favorite dances as well as the Paso Doble. Incredible dance. I can just imagine your sister running rings around the young dancers.
How well I remember Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. Their partnership was astounding.
A little secret...I haven't watched Dancing with the Stars in at least 4 years. I, too, am one who has put away the television for lack of time and interest.
I reside on a lot of acreage and tend huge gardens from herbs, to flora to vegetables. It has been rewarding. I am semi retired for my work entails helping breast cancer survivors. I, also, do many other things, which keep me running in circles. lol
whatever your chronological age, you are still young as long as you stay physically and mentally active. Life has a way of being what you create even without a loving partner...but that is not a concern of mine.
Thank you ever so much for your words and for rating this humble work exceptional. I am honored.

You are most welcome. Your post's theme caught my eye because of my sister's continuing involvement with dancing. I consider your poem's structure very interesting in a positive sense.
Yes, gardening is a great health and life extender, as there is a joy in it beyond its practical results. I'd love to have gardens like that; but not much can be grown in a small urban apartment with narrow sills on two windows facing east and one facing west in separate rooms.
I keep physically active by walking (hence my screen name here) -- a mile every sixteen to seventeen minutes -- and doing the old Charles Atlas isometrics while rebounding, which puts a force two to four times gravity on every cell of the body. Astronauts returning from space rebound to rebuild bone and muscle mass not needed while in low gravity. My sister is an independent dealer/demonstrator for the safest and most effective brand. My father and mother used the one she gave them until ages eighty-six and eighty-nine, respectively.
I keep mentally active by writing and helping other writers improve their technical skills (grammar, punctuation, spelling, word usage, and sentence
structure). I've been doing that for sixty years (even as a research scientist for nineteen years in a Fortune 500 company), and it is my core expertise. Here at FS I'm helping some members publish by serving as their book designer/assembler, cover designer/implementer (including artwork), text editor, typesetter (for best readability), and proxy and/or advisor on publication technicalities. This takes tremendous time, but I love doing it. -- Mike

This excellent, exuberant poem scooped me up with the first line and
danced me all the way down the page. You have made effective use of
descriptive specifics and are apparently as in love with words as with dance!

Janice Canerdy,
Thank you ever so much. Yes, dance mesmerizes me. I have a deep appreciation for the agile and graceful movements of bodies. Such an art. Sculpture in motion.
Words merely try to take the place of an artist fine stroke of the brush on canvass to create the vision on the wall of one's mind. yes, I do love words..can't say I am the best at it, but it challenges me.
again thank you so much. Your review makes my heart leap with joy..

I love the way this piece of free verse slips in and out of established metrical forms to give the reader the rhythms of the exhibition dancing. As free verwse of course it never becomes a total slave to any one metre, but there are many snatches of accepted metrical form around which this moves.
With your permission I would like to use this poem my current metre class as we have ve moved on into the study of the uses of metre in free verse.

Jim,
Thank you so much for this wonderful review. Of course you may use it. To be considered humbles me.
Truthfully, many great poets have tried to teach me metre, but I am inept..totally. So if something falls into the metre category, it's quite by accident on my part..lol..
Again thank you so much..

Thanks for your permission. Anything, even what I am writing here, can be scanned and a metre produced as a result. Sometimes it feels metrical and sometimes it does not.
'As my hips undulate
and my lips sway' has a lovely rhythm to it that contributes to the imagery of the dance. Free verse is great like that because such gems can be injected here and there as required.
Comment from Bicpen
Excellent ... it has a movement all of its own with undulating expression and deliberate pausing. The flow and expression are good and delivers for maximum impact just like your dancing. It states and questions then returns to a verdict which is easily understood and not manipulative. It has a peace and sincerity which carries it through to the final remark making for a choice piece of work. Enjoyed it.

Jimi, This is one of your best poems yet. Not so much a poem, more an experience in dance and human endeavor. I liked it very much and now, listening to Bolero, I love this music and watched the top UK skaters dance on ice to it. You have poured your heart and soul into this work, it paid off with much movement, just like the dance. Man and woman became one. i wish you had entered a contest with this gem. Love, Kace.

I love this! Such a moving description of dance and sensuality. I always wanted to be a dancer, but was allowed only piano. Now, I dance in my kitchen. Smile.
I hope your life is wonderful!

Although I'm a musician and understand the feelings and imaginations music emits, I've never really been able to express myself in dance. But your raw emotion in identifying with the sensual act of the skilled movement and the attraction of the ideal physique of those suited to its expression. You wrote a perfect voice to that. Well done Jimi, blessings, Roy

Your picture selection established the mood for this poem so well. You captured the "art of bodies in motion" and the music. Thank you for adding your reflections about love. Your alliteration of "s's" and the "bridge" metaphor added to the intensity of the message. Brava! Joan

You describe the dancing so well in this piece.
Amazing how the music and the movement meld together
and create such emotion and imaginings.
Those dancers are wonderful.
My daughter is the physical therapist on the show so I watch it all the time.
I am amazed at how strong they are, and how they move so fluidly.
Many have been dancing since they were children.
