Willie P. Smith,
Thanks for sharing this poem, it was a fun read. I like the imagery and the twist at the end. It was really well-written. Great work.
Cheers,

I loved this, I'm a big fan of westerns and this would make a hell of a movie. Your poem rhymed so easily, the story had a surprise ending, and it is wonderfully descriptive. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, Boogienights, for the very nice review. I'm a big fan of westerns also, especially John Wayne. Thanks for the beautiful six stars.

Well done poetic story in rhyming couplets about discrimination and making inferences by looks. I like the ironic ending.

My friend, you penned a beautitul story-poem; simple down to earth vocabulary, phrased into meaningful verses and excellent rhymes. Indeed, you can't tell a book by it's cover.

Brilliant ! The end was superb! Keeping the reader tense with the description of a rugged stranger mud-splattered, unshaven and smelling like a wet horse. And when we expected him to draw out a pisto here comes the announcement.
True you cant tell a book by its cover.
May I tell you a real life incident ?
A bunch of oldies, traditionally dressed were waiting for a bus when a very a young very unconventionally dresses with black jeans and blackshirt ,long hair tied in a ponytail and above all an earring in one ear. some of us looked at him disapprovingly and whispered, "youngsters these days!" uncouth and uncultured"
Then a very sick man limped towards the bus shelter. He almost fainted .He was decrepit looking and was breathing hard. WE looked at him, some with sympathy .,some with frowns. But the young man walked to him and asked why he was at the bus stop. he said he is coming to get admitted in the Government General Hospital and he was coming from a village . The young man called a cruising taxi ,put him in it and gave the cab driver some money .he almost ordered the cab driver to take him to the emergency department."And dont you dare to take any money from him or try to cheat him. I have noted your number and will come to know"
The stunned oldman almost choked with tears. And we "respectably dressed ' people got into the bus meanwhile.
Yes dont judge a book by its cover .Sorry for this long write.

Ha! What a great end to your poem and a great message! It is so true that we all need to remember. Appearance can be - and often are - deceiving. My guess would be that the new pastor of that church could stare down the devil and win!
Great job!
