You have written a wonderful poem full of good old common sense. I too have started ignoring the noise of the crowd ~ necessary for keeping sanity ~. It's like a blaring horn that will not cease. Thank you for a lovely read.. and good luck too.

I always enjoy reading your posts, Craig. This is a particularly good one, both poetically and philosophically. Clearly written by a chip off the old block. A good example of plane sailing in rough seas.

A very well-written poem about finding the release of stress in being creative is more productive than grabbing a gun and start pulling the trigger and see several falls in pools of blood.

Very good, Craig. And very true. If we had a shed, I'd do the same. Good rhyme and rhythm. Where did it all go wrong ... or was it always wrong, but now there's more of us, it's more noticeable.

I suspect it's never been totally right, but it seems to me things have gone rather more nuts over recent years. Many thanks, Emma. Cheers, Craig

S4, L1 - for flow, might I suggest a rearrangement of those same words? "We once gave rest to the oppressed..."

This is outstanding, regardless, IMHO, Craig. If it doesn't win I won't promise to eat my keyboard but I WILL be VERY surprised.

You're so right about that line - thanks for the excellent tip, Dawn. And it goes without saying, thanks for the very kind comments and delightful rating as well. I hope you have a nice sauce to go with that keyboard ;-) Much gratitude, Craig.

I knew that I liked you, Craig. You and Gibbs from NCIS. By any chance do you escape to the basement to wreak stern vengeance on a boat?
Seriously, I wish that I had a six star rating for your mastery of words. Your rhymes are good, but I really enjoyed your internal rhymes in the lines that don't rhyme. Incredible. To me, this should definitely get you the win in this rhyming contest.

No boat, Debbie. Sadly, basements are pretty much unheard of in this country. I've never been in a house that had one. But hey, I make great weaving looms and other accessories for my partner's craft hobbies, as well as other "essentials" for around the place. I have a shed (one of several) pretty much dedicated to my tinkering. It has a hole in the roof and is missing sheets of tin on the sides, and it leans to the left... just the way I like it :)

I had no idea that Australians don't have basements. Makes me wonder why Americans have them. They are nothing but flooding problems. Everyone that I know has a basement, and everyone has water problems.
My opinion of you elevated (if that was possible) at your description of your hobbies and your shed. You have character.

You get top marks just for that picture of the antique wood planer. Those contraptions really do make a person feel relaxed.

Excellent poem in both content and form and it's a superb entry into the rhyming contest.

Most enjoyable read on this fine Wednesday evening.

I have a couple very much like the one in that picture. Unless I'm mistaken, it's a Stanley, the same brand as mine. Thanks for the kind words, Gloria. Much appreciated.

Craig, This is a very well written rhyming poem you have penned for the contest. You hit the nail on the head about so many things happening today. It is so sad that as you said we are changing toys for guns. Very good poem. Best wishes in the contest my friend. Blessings, Teri

That's a lot of great rhyming - really enjoyed reading the internal rhymes in the first and third lines. I think you need to name this form. But most of all, I appreciate the deep reaction to the gun violence that is so prevalent now. And it does make us want to flee and take refuge in some more gratifying art form.

I have no idea what the form is called, Helen. I love my shed :) Cheers, Craig
