It seems Charles is just bungling from one adventure to another. You've left us hanging again, or should I say dribbling with the dislodged stones. Great chapter again, Tony full of drama. Enjoyed it,
cheers,

Ha! Ha! He certainly seems to have a habit of lurching from one disaster to the next. Not a man in the superhero mould!
Many thanks for your review and glittering array of stars.

Just what is Charles planning to do? I hope his new friend has better sense. And I thought he should have killed the guy! Why would Abdul Jaleel let anyone go? He'd still have the money. I hope Kayla has something up her sleeve.

I don't think poor Charles is very good at planning ahead. He just seems to lurch from one disaster to the next. Fortunately, he seems to have enough friends to see him through. At least, that has been the case so far.

Okay, the plot thickens. I am wondering if they will get Helen back safely, or not. Kayla, why'd it take her so long? Maybe she has a good reason, but I am not sure. Did she stop for tea or maybe a talk with Jeanne. I do question her. Thank you for another great post.

Thanks for your review and comments, Barbara. I imagine Charles will ask that question eventually. It may not be the thing at the forefront of his mind just at the moment, though!

Another good chapter in your action packed book. Seems like Charles did make a crucial mistake. We will wait to see exactly what the outcome is. Things are heating up now at the entrance to the Lions den. Bill

Thanks, Bill. Charles seems to have a habit of making crucial mistakes. I hope this one doesn't prove to be terminal.

Now what is he going to do? He left the briefcase. What does he hope to do when he reaches Kayla? All questions I must wait for answers. I like Charles' new-found friend. Can't wait to see what develops.

Thanks, Yvonne. Charles seems to get more and more inept as the story progresses! I hope someone can save him!

As always, vivid descriptions and crisp, believable banter. I like the bit when Charles wonders what gave him away--oh, yeah, the briefcase (duh!) and his quick comeback re liking pears provided they are not being thrown at him. Cheers. LIZ

Thanks, Liz. I appreciate the review. The pears reference harks back to an earlier chapter in the story. Poor old Charles seems to lurch from one disaster to the next. I hope he survives!
Comment from Jannypan (Jan)
Well, I hope his new found ally will help him in this predicament with the briefcase and key. Your chapter is well-written with many details. So much trouble for the original letter, right? Thanks for sharing. Respectfully, Jan

Thanks, Jan. This saga has meandered a long way from its humble beginnings. Soon the task of structural review. I'm not looking forward to it!

What a heck of a thing to forget. I do hope no harm comes to any of them, but it's not looking good for them right now. Your chapter is well-written, very interesting. I look forward to reading more.

Thanks, Dawn. Things do look a bit bleak for them at the moment, and Charles's ineptness isn't helping. The next chapter should bring things to a climax. I hope there are some survivors!
Comment from estory
I liked this chapter; it had plenty of pretty intense suspense that built and built as it went on, and there was an underlying tension throughout. The scene with the Afghan that Charles comes across is really tense; we half expect him to pull his rifle on Charles or try to get that knife to take him prisoner. There's enough ambiguity in the writing to leave us guessing and it worked. Then there's Kayla showing up with the ransom money; I guess we know now that she is after freeing her sister after all, but this could still go very wrong and in the end of the chapter you have Charles forgetting his briefcase and the key in his coat, so there's lots of room for this to go in lots of directions. I think you have set up a great coming chapter. estory

Thanks very much for your review and the sixth star. I appreciate your comments. Charles continues to stumble from one crisis to another. The day of reckoning is nigh!

If I had a six you would have it. I enjoyed reading this story very much. It was suspensful and active all the way through. You did an excellent job. Shirley
