Hello JLT
Your excellent FUSION SONNET which is the first time I read this format. And from you sonnet I found this quote--
Forgive yourself. The supreme act of forgiveness is when you can forgive yourself for all the wounds you've created in your own life. Forgiveness is an act of self-love. When you forgive yourself, self-acceptance begins and self-love grows. -- Miguel Ã?ngel Ruiz MacÃas

Gert, thank you, I must confess this too was my first exposure to a Fusion Sonnet. This poetic style was quite unique. As a staunch free verser it was against my better nature to add free verse lines and a sonnet.

You are welcome JLR

If we can forgive ourselves then we can begin to forgive others, none of us are perfect and our flaws make us who we are, the more errors we make, the more we learn about life and ourselves, wise words here, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

It is so true that one must begin with oneself and learn how to forgive yourself first. Too many people continue to punish themselves, go on guilt trips, and suffer stress because they cannot let go. Well done!

Dear JLR, this fusion sonnet was most excellently constructed. The theme is worthy of this kind of work.
I see only one place that you need to fix a letter.
Please look in the next to the last line and change an N to a D so that it reads, mistakes DO not need to entrap the mind.

Hi friend! I can not thank you enough! I really enjoyed composing this and while I do not like the mixing if free verse within the sonnet, who am I to fuss, I truly hope that you are doing just great!
Everyday is a holiday and ever meal is a banquet! :)

Tony, This is a very well written poem you have penned for the Potlatch Poetry event about forgiving oneself. You used very good descriptive words and interesting imagery. Forgiving our self is one of the hardest things to do it seems. Blessings, Teri

I am not a poet, but I like interesting poem such as yas this. It is well written and it has a lot of emotional content in it. When we give ourselves self-compassion, we are opening our hearts in a way that can transform our lives. Lack of forgiveness can be emotionally damaging!

You've taken on a very complex challenge of the fusion sonnet. Personally, I don't understand the necessity of the free verse at lines 11 to 14 - their addition does not complement but actually detracts from the poem's lovely flowing rhythm. But I do realise these were the parameters of the challenge. Keep going!

Monica as a dyed in the wool free verser, I could not agree more fully with your insight. But, alas, I don't get to rewrite the challenge, have a splendid day!

Of course. One can only 'Forgive oneself!' :)
Comment from Michael Ludwinder
This is a well written and emotional poem. I like how it starts with the statement that mistakes entrap the mind and after showing us much life experience shows that they do not need to. Very creative.

This fusion sonnet, Forgive Oneself, follows the stated format and allows that mistakes will happen and should not be thought of as more than learning opportunities.

It is not poetry rules that means anything to me but the message and this sings a loud song that everyone should learn to sing. We are our worse enemy and learning to forgive self comes first. You say it right.
Thanks for sharing.
