This is a pleasingly unusual piece of stage management. I like very much the presence of essences seen to us, but not to the others on stage. I am slightly confused by your note that you forsee a problem. Can't you just revise slightly? Much enjoyed. Kate xx

The problem I foresaw just as I introduced the two ghosts into the script, was that they needed to be young (in my mind). The only way I thought of bringing that about was to have both the old and the young characters played by actresses who were made up to look old.
Anyway, that was my intent. Judi didn't care for it either -- from the practical standpoint. It's hard enough for old actresses to find work.
Thank you, as usually, for hanging in there with this play. I'm anxious for it to be finished ... after the next posting (probably a week from Saturday).

I love the vision of ghosts of young Fanny and Juniper wandering hand-in-hand around the graves and taking their place to witness the funeral proceedings. I wonder when you knew Fanny would die and they would be buried together. When the story began? Or did Fanny do her own thing as you were writing? What an unbelievably vivid imagination you have.

You make me smile with delight, Lorraine! And it's a 6-star smile, thanks to you.
No, the idea of the double casket came to me as I pondered chapter 18. I made up my mind that Fanny would die during the shaping of that scene. But then it dawned on me that I never followed through with the news from the prison that Juniper had died and they needed instructions on what to do with the body. So ... realizing I hadn't dealt with that issue, and since I was going to kill off Fanny anyway ... a double funeral sounded effective. I just took it a step further and decided on joint-occupancy of the coffin. I researched to make sure it wasn't in violation of a federal or state law. And that's how them problems get unwrinkled.
