I feel the struggle to get these horses from the ship. I'm glad there are only two left. I'm enjoying the story. It is good there are provisions to eat so that starvation is a threat.

Exciting chapter, debi. You made it sound very scary with Ava trying to get Titan to safety. You beautifully showed how dangerous a large animal can be, especially a fearful one. You wrote this so lovingly and with such respect for these beasts. I'm sure the horses will grow to love her too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"taunt rope" - I think you meant taut rope.
"As I lie on my back, I heard Titan skidding..." - This should be "As I lay on my back..."
Hi Jim,
Sorry for the delay in responding. It's been a crazy week so I haven't had much time on the computer.
Thank you for your kind comments about the writing and thoughts about the horses and Ava.
Most especially, thank you for catching those typos. I have corrected them.
I'll drop by to visit your site soon.
I have missed the first two and I will go back and read them. I love to watch horses gallop ;such incredibly graceful creature!
I am amazed that a horse can see and understand a silver line ,i never thought they are so observant.
Hi Sanku,
Thank you for your thoughts on horses. I love to watch them gallop. I love the feeling of riding them when they gallop. It's like flying.
Horses are very observant and intelligent. A person needs to be paying attention or they can get into trouble fast.
I'm glad you are enjoying the story. Thank you so much.
I love your descriptions of the horses (now I know you measure by "hands"), both physically and behaviorally. This is something new to me, so I'm learning and enjoying.
This is flawlessly written and holds the reader's attention throughout. I was thinking as I read, for a horse person, being stranded on an island with four horses and no people would probably be heaven.
Already looking forward to the next chapter and horse number three:-)
I really liked all the sensory descriptions from the observations of the horse, the sounds, and the smell of the sweat-soaked hair. You had me on pins and needles knowing how powerful a kick from a horse can be! Great job and yes, hope Horse # 3 is a gentle one!
Nice. Very nice indeed. You have a talent for descriptive writing that brings your reader into the scene. That is a rare skill.
Horses are amazing creatures, but I think people forget that they have killed many people. When panicked they are dangerous.
Good read.
Hi D,
Thank you for the encouraging comments about the writing. I am still smiling.
You are correct, horses are big powerful creatures. Sometimes we forget how dangerous they can be.
I appreciate you stopping by to read and review this chapter.
You've done a great job of letting novices get a glimpse of how such little things can set a horse off. And so often it happens to catch even journeymen handlers off guard. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Ric Myworld,
Thank you for the encouraging comments. You're so right about a horse catching even the journeymen handlers off guard at times. Even a horse you know well can sometimes surprise you. But you know that.
Have a wonderful day.
I am thoroughly enjoying this story. It is well written and packed with information, action, and suspense. You've included phenomenal imagery and details.
I found it fascinating to read about the thought processes and awareness of horses, never realizing they were so observant as to notice a silver band on the floor in front of the elevator, or the two-inch gap between the deck and ramp.
Additionally, I found your writing exceptional. It's not easy describing the movements of a horse so that readers, unfamiliar with horses can understand how a horse might think, move, and react. The first two horses reacted differently. Hopefully, horse number three will be mild mannered.
Thank you for the generous six stars to brighten my day! I especially appreciate the comments about the writing and what you enjoyed. Yes, horses are quite individual in their reactions and personalities.
Have a wonderful day!
It should be Titan (flinched), not (flinch). Other than that, the story is perfectly executed and held my attention from start to finish. I will watch for more of this story.
Whoa... this chapter had me on the edge of my seat, especially when Ava was enclosed in the elevator with Titan. I was afraid he would buck and kick her.
Are Apollo and Titan free to roam the beach? They are not tethered to anything, right?
Now to horse #3...
Excellent story so far. Lots more of the story to come.
Cheers,
John
Hi John,
Thank you for the encouraging review.
Yes, being confined with a panicked horse can be dangerous. They can bite, strike with their front feet, stomp on you, etc. Whew! She made it.
You are correct; Apollo and Titan are free to go wherever they want.
