I wish I had a thousand sixes to offer you for this unbelievably exquisite composition, so full of heart and sorrow, anger and betrayal. You zeroed in on every emotion created by this horrible situation and brought their excruciating pain - and yours - to life with perfect rhyme and meter. This is an outstanding job and deserves Poem of the Month, if not more. Your writing just gets better and better with each passing day, Jess, and you were excellent to begin with. Just wow. xoxox

I can't even begin to explain what that means to me. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement, beautiful- this was a tough one to write.
You're the best.

Yes, it was palpably tough; I could feel it. You have made lemonade from those lemons, though. I doubt it's much of a consolation, but a person without your strength or heart would not have been able to accomplish it. xoxo

You somehow always know just what to say. I am grateful to know you. Xoxoxo

So very powerful and moving, Jessica.
Each stanza is a powerhouse of emotion.
I was particularly moved by this stanza:
You turned on life before you lived.
You turned our father gray.
You turned your back too fast, and through the cracks, you slipped away.
Having lost our nephew to suicide last April, well, these lines definitely called to me...
That you for sharing, Jessica!
Best wishes!
You words will echo time and again...
fondly,
diane

I can totally relate to your emotons .MY brother fell pray to alcoholism and he died at the age of 50 .My father was an alcoholic and as we were growing up he used to tell me that he would never be like our father..how quickly he forgot that!
This is beautifully written..and it brought tears in my eyes..

Jessica,
This is an exceptional poem of the devastation of drug addiction.
Your words are honest and direct.
The war on drugs is still waging, and I wonder if the good side will ever win.
Best wishes,
Cindy

There's a lot of emotion in this poem about addiction - especially the sadness that was always intertwined with love and possibly hope, but still, the realization that the drugs would win in the end. Your descriptions, Jessica, were very moving and I pray if this has been a part of your life, you find hope for a better tomorrow.

Thank you so much, Carol. Addiction took my sister nine years ago, but time hasn't lessened the impact. I'm genuinely grateful for your review.

For some reason, FanStory won't accept the review I wrote for this saying it was AI generated (which it was not) so please know I wrote a lovely review because I think this is an amazingly beautiful poem. Great work!

This is an excellent writing. I can feel the pain in the words. Addiction is a terrible thing that takes life without care. Those that are hurt the worst are left behind. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you.

This poem describes a grim relationship. I like strong, descriptive phrases and lines in poetry. "You turned on life before you lived" struck me as a prophetic view of what would happen with this betrayer. You used strong phrases and that is befitting of the category of the poem. It is well written and expresses strong emotions which make it good, in my opinion. Good luck in the contest.

Wow, Jess, this is an emotional read. I believe it relates to your sister and I can see how this loss still tears you apart. You understandably feel betrayed and your upset is transparent in this wonderfully powerful and eloquent verse that reads so fluently that it is over almost as soon as it begins, leaving the reader feeling your pain. Thanks for sharing this strong contender for the contest. Good luck! Debbie
