Beautifully done! Yes, we need not fear death because our Heavenly Father owns both sides of the "river" and there is so much more Life beyond this earthly life. I like your allusion to the Greek mythological river Styx. Hope this does well in the contest!

An excellent entry for the Free Verse Poem contest. The boatman and the River Styx are feared by many but as your final lines remind us, we have nothing to fear because the heavenly Father owns both sides of that river and protects us. good luck in the contest.

I love how you use the journey of life as a walk to the River Styx. It's a really interesting juxtaposition of a faith in God the Father with the Greek myth, and that incredible last line that my father owns both sides, effectively putting the fear of crossing the Styx (and death) and the Greek gods in his sole control.
Nicely done!

Aww this is delightful! Firstly the image is beautiful. Then your very clever story of a man changing his ways and his path in his older years to find God which, in turn, means that he no longer fears crossing the river Styx because his faith already strengthens and supports him and will continue to do so in an after-life. Thank you for sharing this spiritual journey in your excellent free verse. Good luck, DonandVicki! Debbie

None of us should ever be afraid to cross the river to the other side when we know that we get there and we are going to meet our Lord and Savior. I enjoyed your poem very much and I wish you the very best with all of your writing. Patricia.
