Even the good Lord took a day to rest. A ranch is a mistress that demands more time than most people are willing to give. This is very well written.

I love it! I love the flow, the meter is great and the rhyme did not feel forced. Most of all I loved the message. We are a society that wants the easy way out without taking any blame, and thinks that immediate gratification is a right not a luxury. Cowboy Up!! So great.

deepwater,
Texas is where I was born and raised. My first husband was a cowboy. He is the father of my only child.
The theme is is wonderful! The descriptive words are well chosen. Thoughts are expressed and described very well.
It is perfectly written and completely error free.
I look forward to seeing you again.
Love you,
Oatmeal

Hi deepwater,
I like the metaphor you used in this well written poem. As a non-American, I had never heard that term before, but I guess you mean it here in different areas of our lives.
Great rhyming and flow, most enjoyable to read.
Love

Hi deepwater,
I have lived in the west all my life and have heard the term "Cowboy Up" many times. If those who give up could cow boy up life wouldn't be so difficult for them. You wrote this well with excellent rhyming couplets. Well done...chey

I think this poem is great because although you specify cowboys, it could be applied to lots of different people. It is a great poem about learning life's lessons the hard way and learning that true personal contentment comes from doing the right thing.
Good writing style and 'way of telling it' combined with good rhyming and flow make this poem easy to read.
Really good one Gary :)

LOVE IT!!!! My favorite phrase...
"It's watching as your friends go to the county fair;
and staying behind, cuz the fence and barn is in need of repair.
It's knowing what's wrong, and doing what's right;
though it means, you're going home alone tonight."
Thank you for letting me read good poetry without having to spend time correcting grammar, etc. Very well done!

Your poem's message is spot on. You've captured the real meaning of what it means to step up and accept responsibility. I'm glad you decided to write, because I like what you have to say.

Wow! This is a very powerful poem. I was impressed with the meaning of the poem and the way to flowed. Very good. I am not familiar with the west, although, I live in TX, brought here by the Army. But I am coming familiar with it and your poem helped, besides it teaches a good life lesson.
