You have strong, vivid memories of your grandmother. She was an amazing person to go through all she did during those trying times during the war years. Defending the meek and supporting the weak is a noble quality. Being a prisoner of war probably made her a stronger person in some ways. I'll bet she had lots of great stories to tell her grandkids. I can tell from your writing that all of you admired and loved her.
Enjoyed your free verse story poem. So many of those who lived through those war years are passing away now. I have an uncle who passed away and he was a surgeon on the beach with General Patton way back when. I have some relatives that wrote some books about their war experiences. It's important that we remember the value and importance of that generation.

Lovely tribute to a grandmother. "She lived through this time for us all" is my favorite line. Because she did your family exists. Strong words, strong woman, God bless her. Very nice rhyme and rhythm.

Excellent written poem and tribute to your gram and the life she came from. It must have been hard in her day, but it made her strong, I'm sure. The gifts she left to those her love her are obvious in your words. Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of art with us.

What a beautiful tribute to your dear old Gram. I love the line that read,

Some people who go through a bad time like your Gram come out of it evil and mean wanting others to pay for their hurt and pain cause by ruthless people. But others like your Gram spend their lives making sure the people they know never feel such desperation and humility. God Bless.
