Oh yes mate you write a lot of truth here with this one. I just came back from the Korean war Memorial in Seoul today actually. This chimes in well !

This poem, I suppose is a short Elegy. Honoring the dead. It is written and expressed prettily. The image is strong. Dead soldiers being buried in a holes of gray behind the wire-trenches. The picture of a soldier along a desolate scene
supports the theme pretty well. The poem, also created some emotions. Congratulations. Dom

we bury their shells << Terrific line!
All souls have traveled up from this hell, to live in Elysian Fields.
Dramatic ending to a moving poem. Surely all those young men, from both sides, went straight to Heaven. War is such a waste of blood and treasure, yet nations keep doing it and doing it and doing it... and NEVER learn from history to not allow such anger to start in the first place! One exception-- the radical muslim terrorists. Those guys have heads filled from birth with ONE thing...killing non-muslims. Religion of peace? Pardon me while I barf!

As poetic as we make it, war is such a harsh and inhuman happening that I wonder how we continue to brainwash ourselves into continuing them. Good write hear..your words soften the blows of reality.
Best wishes,

I worked with several men served in WW1 years ago. They simply called it "The War". Sad that the men change, the weapons change, but the war is always the same.

A poem such as this magnificent one sure puts petty complaints in place. We tend to forget in our day-to-day struggles just how lucky we are, thanks to the REAL struggles and sacrifices made by those who went to war for us...

This 'war to end all wars' lives on in our collective memories, it seems, far more than the Second World War. Thank you dw for keeping that collective memory strong - as it should be. Your author notes were particularly moving as we remember our young men who died for no reason. I have a 17 year old and cannot imagine losing him to such atrocity. Rhythm's bumpy, but I know that's your style.

And so it still goes on - more sophisticated weaponry. It was supposed to be the war to end all wars - I think it was just a try-out for all the wars that followed. "We Will Remember Them." At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. Well written - still, apart from tin medals, there is no glory in war.

This is a great poem. And it's definitely
filled with words of substance. Your poetic
alliteration was on point. And it was very
powerful poem all around. Keep writing.

Your poems are so powerful that they raise the hair right off my arms. It chills me to think of the suffering in this world you describe so aptly and that was the war to end all war! Your art is a means a tampering the pain of this troubled time. Thanks for sharing it with us.
