The art work is very special
The men and women who fought
to keep us safe will never be forgotten.
Man should learn and make sure
no wars should be anymore
is it worth it to have war.

This is a beautiful tribute to the fallen soldiers. It is interesting and held my attention well. I appreciate true stories and poems much more than fiction. They mean so much, when they are about our own soldiers and countrymen. You have done a wonderful job of keeping their memory alive, my friend. This piece is excellent.

Always with respect,

This is lovely. The images of the ghosts of 1915 waking and being there on the centenary of their death is very evocative and meaningful. In past years while watching the whole day long ANZAC programme I have given thought to this very theme. You capture the mood and sense of it very well, and I think those lads from 100years ago would say as I say "Good on yer mate" Well done cheers Cass

My wife and I were there in 2008 Kaye, it's very rough terrain, what mind conceived the plan to land there was beyond me, our boys were cut to ribbons, mind you the Turks were heavily outgunned and lost 87000 killed to our combined, Australian and NZ 11,000, British 33000, French 10,000. At one stage the Turks had run out of ammunition. It wasn't quite as people portray, all were incredibly brave, particularly the Turk, they were mostly shepherd boys and such. So all nations fought bravely, particularly the Turks. They ran out of ammunition at one stage, they wanted to go home, Attaturk (Turkish commender) told them to stand and die, they did. We did distinguish ourselves, an awful lot died of disease! But your poem was a beauty, full of pride and justifiable ardour for our brave Anzacs. Beautiful language, in aabb rhyming, well done, blessings, Roy.

Hello Roy, Thanks for the information. The English commanders were responsible for the terrible mistake that cost so many lives. It must have been a very moving time for you in 2008. Blessings, Kay.

Great poem for the Story in a Poem contest, Kay, and a great tribute to fallen soldiers. I guess ANZAC Day is the same as our Veterans Day?

Lay (Lie) in death, kissed by flowers

I suppose it is the same as Veteran's Day, when do you have it? Thanks for reading mum. XX

Our Veterans Day isn't until November, but our Memorial Day is the end of May, and that is probably more like your ANZAC Day.
reply by the author on 05-Apr-2015
OK, I checked and it was lay with flowers. :-)
reply by mumsyone on 06-Apr-2015
Sorry, it sounded to me like you were talking about soldiers, not flowers, lying there:

Hand in hand, theirs and ours
Lay in death, kissed by flowers

The graves are surrounded by flowers my friend. XX

A perfect poem to commemorate WWI Kay, I am actually lost for words. I found this so very very poignant. So many young men lost their lives during those two Wars. Unfortunately history does repeat itself. Man never seems to learn.

This reads aloud so beautifully, and I have to confess when I read it I was glad I had a box of tissues at my desk.

The feelings you have put into this poem are so very intense, but also so very uplifting.

We will remember.

Just one little nit, in your author notes, I think you meant it was 100 years since WWI not WWII.

Thank you for sharing.
