As an old cowgirl myself, as well as a lover of country music, I was bound to love this poem. The rhyming was excellent and the story flowed effortlessly from first verse to last. It was a most believable story too. I could imagine this set to music and sung by some country singer. I think it would be a hit. Good strong verbs and clever metaphors make this a winner.

What is your name? So do you write about the fast horses that do barrels and sprint? I like the rodeos too. They have lots of rodeos in Rowlett, Texas. I watch rodeos at the fair in Minnesota. The kids like to show the cattle, sheep, goats and bunnies. I like the man looking for his lady, hurt heart and drinking ain't cutting the pain. The man counts and love prevails. Wasted time wondering. Great song, well written!

An poem of following one's passion to the detriment of all else. I thought this was an interesting poem story with an ending that couldn't have gone any other way. Well expressed.

Fabulous photo to compliment your poem. Great cantering words telling the story. This is one of the best poems that I have read this week. I'm a horse person, horses are a big part of Australian culture. Loved your story/poem.

I enjoyed this poem immensely! While I was reading your poem it was quite a surprise that he died in the end. It was quite heartbreaking. Your poem flows very nicely and your creativity shines through. This poem has to be one of my favorites. Thank you for sharing.

wow, this would be a terrific song. I imagine George Straight or Tim McGraw singing this one, or better yet, Johnny Cash! I loved every line and was so sad that the MC died just as his love returned. Oh, woe. Beautifully written and expressed.

I live in rodeo country. One every weekend close by. Some of the buckles are very big..some, not so much. Size counts, doesn't matter what is said. The size of a man is always reflected in his buckle. Good poem...fun to read and tells a story far beyond the words used.

In Rodeo the size of the buckle does count. In real life it is the size of the man. Appreciate your comments.

Lovely story that paints a perfect picture of life in the rodeo. Garth Brooks song Rodeo is stuck in my head while reading this and reminds me of the movie 8 seconds as well. This is well written with a great story! I applaud you for this piece.

Thank you for your comments. Chris LeDeaux is who I more had in mind three years ago when I originally wrote these song lyrics. Appreciate your remarks.
