A very well-written chapter. More details emerge, but the mystery seems to accumulate as well. What will be waiting at the hospital and why it is an emergency?

After an exciting if somewhat harrowing episode you can still find a way of leaving us on a cliff-hangar. I passed through Bangkok on one occasion with a friend as gusts of the ~Tiger Breweries our sponsors in the first Asian Highway rally to be run from Vientiane in Laos back to Singapore. The car's engines had a makeover in Singapore befoe we left and we used the run northwards to run the new bearings in.

We were well looked after in bangkok but one hears all kinds of scary stories about the place these day and two girls without money or documents would indeed be hrown back on their own resources. This rings true.

Tiger Beer! That brings back a few memories. I flew in to Vientiane once, but only for a two-hour turnaround, so my sole recollection is of the airfield, which was as fine a graveyard of obsolete aircraft as I've ever seen. Several of them still staggering around the skies!
imagine that the Asian Highway rally would have been quite an experience.

Cheers, Tony;
.> There was a lot of material to remember what the mom was stated they got robbed by 3 boys and had to end up dancing and ssleazy bars to try to earn money to get out of their situation. So Mme. Durand met them in a sleazy bar and later made an appointment with them to offerr them a satisfying condition or a proposition.
> It unravels but I think it was a lot to unraavel a little but it does tie a lot of loose ends.
> I found that the grasshoppers were touch and you eating the grizzly snails were touch of a little bit too much for me. I don't like escargot.
> Thanks for sharing, Tony, take care and have a girl my friend.

Very many thanks for your review, Alex. I'm hoping that the journal will gradually throw more light on the character and actions of Helen, and her relationship with Jeanne.

Yes it does and tying things in together that I didn't realize before. A good job, but you really have to follow the story when reading this chapter alsoo be lost, I think.
You're very welcome, Tony and take care.

Good chapter. No patronizing in this one. After all, Charles is by himself. There's no one to insult.
I am just kidding of course. I did totally enjoy the chapter. It's good to get to know what's in the journal. Finally, questions are starting to get answered.

I like the background information given in the journal and we get to "read" it with Charles giving us his commentary, too. I especially liked the comparison of the fried insects and garlic snails.

Wow! An exciting journal. Good reading and flitting here and there with Helen's descriptions. Not sure spags ahead or?? being sampled from a b[u?](i?)g cart. Now moved on perhaps bug was right? Saw this on "Lonesome Dove" series too. Fried grasshoppers. Bleah!

As far as I'm concerned, fried grasshoppers fall into much the same category as witchety grubs. Bleah!

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

This chapter is just pure perfection. Love how the story travels back and forth into past and present. Love the characters, and specifically the narrator of the story. Because I am new to this site, this is the first chapter I have read of 'The French Letter'. I am anxious to read more.
Blessings,

I heard about travel journals. They're sold during Xmas at the department store for an executive gift. I'm glad you wrote this story. Taking notes can be a safety net. You have plenty going on in this story. Creative recaps. Well thought out. Nicely written. Enjoyable read. Exceptional work (sorry, no more sixers).

I found your story really interesting. I liked the use of the journal narration and then returning to the present as the champagne is served or the snails arrive. I hope that you will continue the story.

Very intriguing. Just when we were getting somewhere in the journal, the phone rings. What could be wrong with Jeanne? What a nightmare the girls went through trying to survive. Great chapter, Tony.
