Hello Bill,
MARVELOUS piece of War and History Poetry meeting the desired norms,
having impressive phraseology, ENCHANTING FLOW from the beginning to the end with lovely rhyming scheme, and TRANSPARENTLY depicting in your heart your DUTY as well as your BEAUTY!
3rd line of the 1st Stanza and last line of the last Stanza are particularly noteworthy.
BEST OF LUCK in all respects!

This is a good poem I like the way the soldier still fought through the war for his lover, for love is probably one of the biggest motivators. War is indeed hell but with something good to think about you can just make it through it. I like how you said that her waiting at home muffled the gun fire, if was a change from gunfire muffling other stuff. We do indeed need to give our veterans a lot of respect and it is sad that some of them are frowned upon. Good job and good luck with the contest.

The back and forth between war and your love, the rhyming, the alliteration - the whole poem is well expressed and written. I enjoyed this very much.

A snippet of your history in this fight in Vietnam that was doomed from the start and the leaders knew it too and continued to allow soldiers to die on foreign soil in order to save themselves. Your words are hard hitting, sad and it was pure luck who survived. It was like fighting in the dark against those who knew the terrain and had the tenacity and cruelty to win against an often naive army life lambs to the slaughter. But these soldiers were proud, fighting for their country in a war they could not win, but they still tried and loss their life. The Americans first on one side and then on the other and faced with an impossible task were send to their deaths and the strain was left forever for the country to mourn. These are heartfelt words Bill and I hope that you are now living in peace, love Dolly x

Writing from the perspective of a participant in the action is a real thrill to read and a great tribute to our fighting forces. The idea when in a war, a just war, if there ever is one, as you state, should be won quickly and not linger on and on. This poem is written well with beat, cadence, and rhyme and certainly fits the bill of war and history. Buona Fortuna in the contest. giovanni

I am 72 years old, which means I have or had a lot of classmates and friends who fought in Viet Nam. What a sad thing that these young men (babies, really) were not heralded as heroes as were soldiers of earlier wars. I am so sorry for your loss. I know it must have been horrific for everyone. The piece is nicely done and gives a little comfort and hope.
