Although I haven't read the other chapters yet, (and I'll be doing that shortly) I'm already enjoying this novel immensly. its soft and sweet, yet has the feel of tortured past, and unresolved pain. i'm hooked.
I'm so sorry to hear about your cancer. My mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year, but she's doing a lot better these days. you'll be in my prayers.

I read your author's notes after reading the chapter. Actually, I think you do quite a good job of catching the reader up into these characters. The interaction here is such that the background is not necessary for the reader to feel empathy for the players.
